The Western Big 6 Conference was established in 1969 and Galesburg has been a member since in its inception. The conference consists of four schools from the Quad Cities area, Quincy and Galesburg. Enrollments range from Quincy with over 2200 students to Alleman - the league's only private school - with just under 500.

Galesburg's boys golf team claimed the school's first conference title in 1970. The first league championship earned by a Silver Streak girls team came in tennis in 1976. Over the past 35 years, GHS has enjoyed success in many conference sports. For the boys, baseball has won or shared the most league titles (10) and on the girls side, two sports can boast over 10 league titles: golf and basketball.

David Anderson
Three sports, one exceptional athlete
MOLINE - GHS senior David Anderson was named the "Western Big 6 Male Athlete of the Year", Monday at a press conference held at Moline High School.
Anderson is only the second Silver Streak male athlete to win the prestigious Don Morris Memorial Award since it was instituted in 1984 in memory of Morris, a Hall of Fame basketball coach and athletic director at Alleman High. Don Morris Award winners are three-sport athletes who exhibit exceptional character, excel in their sports, show strong leadership in their schools and perform well in the classroom.
Anderson has more than met those standards in his four years at GHS. He is an All-American swimmer and six-time state medalist. He was selected All-Conference in football and qualified for the state track and field meet his junior year in the discus. In addition to his athletic pursuits, Anderson has maintained a high academic standing, while also being active in school, church and community activities. He plans to attend the University of Notre next fall and compete on the men's swim team.
