Sports Medicine Class Information

Galesburg High School, in an effort to help prepare its students for potential careers, offers a Sports Medicine class. This class is offered through the GHS vocational department, and is intended to help introduce students to medical topics, specifically those related to Athletic Training and Sports Medicine.

Course Description

SPORTS MEDICINE       CRN#: 940 0          1 Term       ½Credit             Grades 10 - 12
This is a course for students who are interested in the medical field; however, the basics of sports medicine will be emphasized. This course will include extensive anatomy and physiology, as well as the prevention, treatment (including taping) and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Students are required to spend a portion of time (not less than nine hours) outside the classroom under the supervision of the athletic trainer for hands-on experience. This class will have limited enrollment. This class is by application only.

It is recommended that any student who has an interest in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or any other health care related field take this course. While this course is intended to be introductory, students will study vigorously in anatomy and physiology, joint taping, application of modalities, and various other aspects of Sports Medicine. A strong commitment is necessary, as clinical hours outside of the classroom are required.
