Streak sophs 9-1 in conference |
5/9 - (ROCK ISLAND) While GHS'
varsity has struggled during the second half of the Western
Big 6 season, the Streak sophomores have quietly been

clinched the "mythical" sophomore league title. The Streaks
finished the conference campaign 9-1, with their only loss
coming the first weekend at Alleman. They moved to 17-3
overall with four games remaining. The opening game at Rock
Island went six innings. The teams were tied 1-1 going into
the third inning, but GHS broke it open with a five-run

for the pitching victory. He struck out five and allowed the
only run. Rebel Schott pitched two innings and Brock Bush

Streak
sophomores sweep Moline |
5/2 - There may not be an
official Western Big 6 sophomore championship, but Moline
and GHS' sophomore baseball teams played like there was one
Saturday. In two very competitive games, the young Streaks
came out on top 1-0 (nine innings) and 6-3. The opener saw
both teams send strong pitching to the mound. GHS finished
with four hits and Moline, three. The winning run came in
the bottom of the seventh. A walk to Rebel Schott and an
error on Cody Kukuk's two-out grounder kept things alive for
Brock Bush, who singled in the Schott. Chris Fields pitched

innings, allowing just one hits and striking out two.

they would never relinquish. Freshman Tim Rossell got the pitching
victory in relief of starter Tyler Farrell, who left in the
middle of the second inning. Rossell went five innings,

| GHS sophs win
high-scoring contest |
4/24 - (MORTON) After nearly a
week without a game, GHS' sophomores shook off the rust in a
16-15 eight-inning victory at Morton, Friday. The Streaks
took what looked like a commanding early lead, but couldn't hold on to it and
found themselves having to rally in the final two innings
for the win. Four pitchers saw action for GHS with Rebel
Schott earning the victory with a scoreless final two and a
third innings of work. The Streaks scored four runs in each
of the first two innings, two in the third and three in the

sophomores sweep U.T. |

| GHS sophs
win Alleman season series |

match-up, but GHS' sophomore baseball team can claim
bragging rights as they defeated Alleman 11-6, here
Wednesday, to take two of three from the Pioneers. With the
win, the Streaks sophomores moved to 6-2 on the season. They
are scheduled to host United Township in a league
doubleheader Saturday. Alleman jumped out to a 2-0 lead in
the first inning against GHS starting pitcher Brock Bush.
However, the Streak hurler held the Pioneers to only one
more run in his three innings of work while his teammates
scored six runs to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Rebel Schott relieved and pitched the final four frames
allowing three runs. Offense made the difference for the
Streaks as they belted out 12 hits against three Alleman

GHS
sophomores split with Alleman |
4/11 - (MOLINE) After a 10-run
victory in the opener, Saturday, GHS' sophomore baseball had
to settle for a split at Alleman in both team's Western Big
6 openers. The Streaks won 13-3, but fell to the Pioneers in

one in the sixth to get the ten-run margin. Mines went
4-for-4 with two RBI's to lead the Streaks' attack in the
opener. Fields had three hits and Steck , Dalton Davis and
Tyler Farrell had two apiece. Cody Kukuk and Logan Scott
also chipped in hits in the 17-hit barrage. In the nightcap,
the Streaks had nine hits, but managed just three runs
against Alleman's Saskowski. The Pioneer pitcher went the
distance with three strikeouts. Farrell took the pitching
loss for GHS. He pitched into the fourth, allowing four runs
on eight hits, striking out seven and walking four. Rebel
Schott gave up three runs in relief and Steck pitched a
scoreless frame. The Streaks took the lead with a run in the
second inning, but Alleman answered in the third to tie the
score. Three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings got
the job done for the Pioneers. The Streaks plated one run in
both those innings, but it wasn't enough. Alleman out-hit
the Streaks 11-9 in the nightcap. McCrery and Kukuk led GHS
with two hits apiece. Steck, Farrell, Brock Bush, Schott and

Solid pitching earns sophs
sweep |
4/4 - (CANTON) A pair of
well-pitched games and plenty of hitting gave GHS' sophomore
baseball team a 5-1, 5-2 doubleheader sweep at Canton,
Saturday. Chris Fields and Tyler Farrell allowed the Little
Giants only a combined seven hits on the day and only three
runs. In the opener, Fields allowed one run on four hits and
struck out six in the victory. The young Streaks scored five
runs, but could have had more with their 13-hit attack.
Another telling stat was GHS' fielders committing just one
error - a big improvement from their shaky performance in
the loss to East Peoria. The Streaks grabbed a 3-0 lead in
the second inning. Rebel Schott knocked in two of those
runs. The Streaks added two more in the third and that was
all they needed. Canton plated their lone run in the bottom
of the second. They had three hits in that frame and that was it for
the contest. Andrew Steck, Farrell and Zach McCrery each had
two hits for the winners. Nathan Mines, Dalton Davis, Cody Kukuk, Fields, Tyler Inness, Schott and Logan Scott all had
one hit apiece. In the nightcap, GHS never trailed. They

allowed just three hits. Steck, Fields and Farrell led the
GHS nine-attack with two hits apiece. Mines, McCrery and
Brock Bush had one hit each. With the sweep, the Streak

East
Peoria rallies past GHS sophs |
4/2 - (EAST PEORIA) Failing to
build on an early lead and struggling with gloves, the GHS
sophomore baseball team suffered their first loss of the
season 6-4 at East Peoria, Thursday. With the loss, the
Streak sophs fell to 2-1 on the early season. They will try
to rebound this Saturday when they travel to Canton for a

as he allowed just one run in four innings of work. He
scattered four hits, walked two and struck out four. He left
with a 2-1 lead. In the fifth, Andrew Steck took the mound.
A couple of walks and a couple of hits helped East
Peoria score three runs to take a 4-2 lead. GHS plated a
solo run in the sixth to cut the deficit, but gave up two in
the bottom of the frame. Chris Fields tossed the sixth and
got the first two men out, but three fielding errors by the
Streaks gave East Peoria the two runs that proved to be the
difference in the contest. The Streaks scored one run in the
seventh as Fields doubled in Steck, but the rally ended
there. Dalton Davis had two hits to lead the GHS nine-hit
attack. Zach McCrery, Tyler Farrell, Steck, Fields, Nathan
Mines, Schott and David Slaton had one hit apiece. |
| GHS sophs
win home opener |

contest. He allowed two hits, but didn't let Macomb score
any more runs. GHS scored three runs in the first inning and
added four in the second. They finished scoring two in the

and Andrew Steck were both three-of-four at the plate.

open with big win |
3/25 - (SHERRARD) GHS'
sophomore baseball team opened their season with a
six-inning 15-2 victory at Sherrard, Wednesday. The young

Tigers. Nick Milligan started on the mound and picked up the
win. He allowed no hits in three innings, struck out three
and walked three. Rebel Schott threw the final three
innings. He allowed two runs on two hits and struck out
four. GHS scored in every inning but the fourth. They took a
6-0 lead in the third before Sherrard scored its only runs -
a pair in the bottom of the frame. The score remained 6-2

and then in the sixth put things away with a six-run
outburst. The Streaks had 14 hits in the contest. Dalton
