Freshmen Season summary...
Freshmen finish season 16-3
5/21 - (PEORIA) A season filled with rain-outs and gaps between games ended successfully, Thursday, for the GHS freshmen baseball team. The young Streaks defeated Peoria Richwoods 19-8 to finish their campaign 16-3.
    A nine-run fourth inning put the GHS freshmen firmly in control and on track to a six-inning victory. The Streaks in every inning but one. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added two in both the second and third frames. In the sixth, they scored three.
    Richwoods scored four runs in the third and three in the fourth. They also had a solo run in the bottom of the first.
    With it being the final game of the season, GHS coach Dan Powell paraded four pitchers to the hill. Starter Tim Rossell worked two innings for the win. He struck one and allowed only one run. Seth Morling, Tyler Brackett and Colton Crain followed.
    Seventeen different players got to bat for the Streaks. Morling, Shay Hostens, Zach Riley, Rossell, Crain and Tyler Gregory had two hits apiece. Brad Smith, Chad Johnson, Brackett, Matt Lansing, Zach Wilke and Garrett Hartman had one hit each.
Another victory for GHS freshmen
5/12 - (BARTONVILLE) GHS' freshmen baseball team avenged an earlier home loss to Limestone, Tuesday, with a 6-3 victory on the road.
    Tim Rossell tossed a complete game four-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the young Streaks.
    Neither team scored until the fourth inning. GHS erupted for six runs. Luke Ryan smacked a three-run homer in the frame. That turned out to be the only inning the Streaks would score, but it proved to be enough for the win. Limestone plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the sixth.
GHS had six hits in the contest. Four of those hits came in the fourth. Ryan led the Streaks with two hits. Rossell, Drew Carlson, Austin Gernant and Zach Riley also added baseraps.
    With the win, the GHS freshmen moved to 15-3 on the season. They are scheduled to play at AlWood Friday and host the annual Freshmen Classic Saturday. GHS will play the 10 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. contests.
Freshmen stop Monmouth-Roseville
5/11 - (MONMOUTH) GHS' freshmen baseball team expected a better contest at Monmouth-Roseville, Monday, and they got it in a 4-1 win over the Titans.
    With the victory, the young Streaks moved to 14-3 on the season. They will travel to Limestone, Tuesday, for another 4:30 p.m. contest.
    Ty Brackett picked up the pitching victory at Monmouth, going four innings. He allowed one run on two hits, while striking out two and walking two. Austin Gernant tossed three hitless and scoreless innings in relief. Gernant also struck out two.
    GHS scored solo runs in the first, fourth, sixth and seventh. M-R got their only run in the bottom of the fourth.
    The Streaks out-hit the Titans 7 to 2. Brad Smith had three of those hits for GHS, including a triple. Luke Ryan, Colton Crain, Tim Rossell and Brackett had one hit apiece.
Freshmen prevail in 10 innings
5/8 - (CANTON) After blowing a 6-1 lead in the seventh inning, the GHS freshmen baseball team kept their composure and eventually got past Canton 10-6 in 10 innings, Friday.
    Luke Ryan earned the pitching victory in relief. He went three and a third innings, striking out seven. Colton Crain started the contest and went six and two-thirds innings, but could not get out of the seventh. He had three strikeouts.
    In the third inning, the Streaks took a 2-0 lead on back-to-back RBI singles by Crain and Tim Rossell. Canton countered with a run in the bottom of the frame and then sat on one run until the seventh. GHS added two more runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
    Canton's offense woke up in the seventh as they mustered seven hits and scored five runs. They stranded the potential winning run on third base when Ryan got the final out of the inning on a ground out.
    Both teams went down in order in the eighth and ninth innings and the score remained 6-6, until the Streaks put together a four-run uprising after one out. Chad Johnson singled to start things. An out later, Ryan walked and Crain , Rossell and Austin Gernant followed with back-to-back-to-back RBI singles.
    GHS had 18 hits in the contest. Brad Smith led with four hits. Johnson had three. Seth Morling, Ryan, Crain and Rossell had two each and Gernant, Tyler Brackett and Zach Riley, one apiece. With the win, the Streak freshmen moved to 13-3 on the season. They will travel to Monmouth-Roseville on Monday and Limestone on Tuesday.
Rare loss for GHS freshmen
5/5 - GHS' freshmen baseball team blew an 8-0 lead Tuesday and fell to visiting Limestone 14-8.
    The loss was only the Streaks' third of the season as they fell to 12-3.
    GHS starting pitcher Luke Ryan cruised through the first three innings, facing just nine batters, but in the fourth the hits started coming. Limestone plated five to cut their deficit to 8-5. Ryan got the Rockets in order in the fifth, but in the sixth, he couldn't get out of the inning and Limestone would eventually score nine runs.
    The Streaks never recovered and failed to score in the final four innings. GHS actually out-hit Limestone 13 to 9, but five walks and five errors helped the Rockets make up the difference. Matt Lansing finished the game on the mound and allowed the final four runs.
    Colton Crain was 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the GHS attack. Brad Smith had three hits. Ryan added two hits and Seth Morling, Chad Johnson, Tim Rossell and Tyler Brackett had one hit apiece.
    Friday, the GHS freshmen will try to get back on track when they travel to Canton.
Streak freshmen defeat Macomb again
5/4 - (MACOMB) GHS' freshmen baseball team swept their two-game season with Macomb, winning 9-1 at Macomb Monday.
    Austin Gernant went five innings to pick up the pitching victory and Seth Morling tossed the final two innings. Luke Ryan led the Streaks at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort.
    With the win, the GHS freshmen improved their season record to 12-2. Their next game will be at home on Tuesday against Limestone.
Freshmen Streaks beat Richwoods
5/1 - Colton Crain did it on the mound and at the plate for the GHS freshmen baseball team, here Friday, as they defeated Peoria Richwoods 9-4.
    With the win, the young Streaks moved their season record to 11-2. They will travel to Macomb Monday to take on a dangerous Bomber squad.
    Crain did not overpower the Knights, but scattered four hits and four runs. He only struck out one and four. Seth Morling pitched a scoreless seventh.
    GHS' freshmen scored one run in each of the first three innings and then put the game away with a big six-run fourth inning. A key blow in that inning was Crain's bases loaded double that scored three runs. Brad Smith followed with a triple and Streaks were home free.
     In the contest, GHS had nine hits. Smith and Morling had two apiece and Crain, Chad Johnson, Luke Ryan, Austin Gernant and Zach Riley added one apiece.
Freshmen win another doubleheader
4/29 - Rain-outs have been a regular occurrence for the GHS freshmen baseball team this season, but when they've been able to play, the young Streaks have had success. On Wednesday, which might be the only day they get to play this week, the freshmen swept a doubleheader from Monmouth-Roseville, 8-2 and 17-1.
    With the two wins, the Streaks moved to 10-2 on the season. They are next scheduled to play at home on Friday against Peoria Richwoods. The weather forecast does not look favorable, but a decision on that game will be made Friday morning.
    In the first game, Tim Rossell started on the mound for GHS and earned the victory. He pitched four innings, allowed two hits and struck out seven. Matt Lansing followed for two scoreless innings and Zach Riley pitched the seventh.
    The Streaks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning and then scored three in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth. M-R got solo runs in the fourth and seventh innings.
    The Streaks had 10 hits in the opener. Colton Crain led the way with two hits. Seth Morling, Chad Johnson, Luke Ryan, Garrett Hartman, Brad Smith, Drew Carlson, Rossell and Zach Wilke all had one hit each.
    In the nightcap, the game only went five innings as the Streaks scored in each frame. They scored two runs in both the first and second innings and then put together to big innings. They batted around in the third and fourth to plate seven and six runs, respectively.
    Austin Gernant pitched three innings for the win. He struck out seven. Tyler Brackett tossed the final two innings, allowing no runs.
    Once again, the Streaks had 10 hits. Morling, Ryan, Smith and Zach Riley had two each. D.J. Orozco and Johnson had one apiece.
GHS freshmen sweep doubleheader
4/25 - (PEKIN) GHS' freshmen baseball team avenged an earlier loss to Pekin by sweeping Saturday's doubleheader 9-4, 16-1.
    The young Streaks improved to 8-2 on the season with the wins. They are scheduled to play at Alleman on Monday, weather-permitting.
    In the first game, Colton Crain went the distance on the mound. He struck out six, walked one and allowed just four hits.
    GHS grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Pekin cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third before the Streaks scored two in the fourth to extend their lead. They added three more in the top of the fifth to lead 7-1. Pekin added three in their side of the inning, but GHS tacked on two in the sixth to squelch any chance of a comeback.
    Seth Morling had three hits to lead the Streaks at the plate. Luke Ryan had two hits, including a homerun in the fifth. Brad Smith, Crain, Tim Rossell, Adam Riley, Drew Carlson and Tyler Brackett also contributed hits to the cause.
    In the second game, the Streaks dominated for a five-inning victory. Three pitchers saw action for the Streaks, with Ryan picking up the victory. Ryan pitched two innings. Matt Lansing pitched two and Carlson, one. Pekin's lone run came in the bottom of the fifth.
    GHS' boys out-hit Pekin 16-4 in the nightcap. Smith led the Streaks with three hits. Ryan, Lansing, A. Riley and Zach Wilke had two each. Zach Riley, Rosseell, Austin Gernant, D.J. Orozco and Austin Harris had one apiece.
Freshmen top Moline in five innings
4/23 - Lightning shortened Thursday's GHS freshmen baseball game against Moline, but when the rumbles hit the young Streaks were ahead 6-1 and claimed the weather-shortened victory.
    The Streaks moved to 6-2 with the win. They will play next at Pekin Saturday in a doubleheader.
    Tim Rossell earned the pitching victory for GHS. He struck out seven Moline batters in five innings, while allowing just one run on two hits.
    Offensively, Rossell also lead the way with a 2-for-2 effort that included a two-run homer in the third inning against the wind. Zach Riley also had two hits. Seth Morling, Chad Johnson, Colton Crain, Brad Smith and Austin Gernant had one hit apiece.
    After Moline plated their only run in the top of the second, GHS answered with three in the bottom of the frame, two more in the third and one in the fourth.
GHS freshmen sweep Panthers
4/22 - Strong pitching and plenty of offense helped GHS' freshmen baseball team score a doubleheader sweep of United Township, here Wednesday. The Streaks defeated U.T. 11-2 and 13-2 at Sundberg Field.
    With the wins, coach Dan Powell's Streaks, who had nearly as many games cancelled this season as they have played, moved to 5-2. They are scheduled to host Moline on Thursday in a make-up contest.
    In the opener, Luke Ryan pitched five innings for the victory. He yielded the mound to Matt Lansing for the final two innings after being struck by a throw while scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth. Ryan allowed one run on two hits and struck out 12 U.T. batters. Lansing also allowed one run and struck out three.
    Brad Smith led the Streaks at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort that included a triple and three RBI's. Seth Morling had two hits and Chad Johnson, Colton Crain, Ryan,Tyler Brackett, Zach Wilke and Zach Riley, one apiece.
    GHS' boys, who took advantage of eight U.T. errors in the contest, scored three runs in the second inning and never looked back. They added eight runs in the final three innings. U.T. plated solo runs in the third and sixth innings. Those were the only two innings they were able to hits off GHS' pitching.
    In the nightcap, the Streaks wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. They batted around in the first inning and scored four runs. They added three in the second and six in the third. U.T. scored both their runs in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to extend the contest to seven innings.
    Austin Gernant tossed a one-hitter on the mound for GHS. He had a no-hitter until the fifth and finished with 12 strikeouts. Offensively, Smith, Gernant, Crain and Drew Carlson led with two hits each. Shay Hostens, Lansing, Adam Riley, Tyler Gregory and Garrett Hartman all chipped in one hit apiece.
Pekin blanks Streak freshmen
4/17 - Pekin's Josh Peters kept the GHS' freshmen baseball team's bats silent, here Friday, as his team scored a 6-0 shutout victory.
    The Dragon's starting pitcher went six innings, allowing just two hits, while striking out four. The Streaks saw another pitcher in the seventh, but could not muster a run.
     After two scoreless innings to start the game, Pekin punched in a solo run in the third and another in fourth. A three-run sixth inning put things out of reach and the Dragons managed one more in the seventh. They had seven hits, but took advantage of three Streak fielding errors.
    Austin Gernant took the pitching loss, working five and two-thirds innings and giving up five runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out five before yielding the mound to Drew Carlson, who finished the game.
    Collecting hits for the Streaks were Tim Rossell, Chad Johnson, Adam Riley and Zach Riley. Johnson's hit was a double that led off the fourth, but did not lead to a run as he never advanced past second base.
     With the loss, the GHS freshmen fell to 3-2 on the season. They will play next at United Township on Tuesday.
Freshmen win in dramatic fashion
4/16 - Rainouts and other postponements have wreaked havoc with the GHS freshmen baseball team's season, but Thursday, the young Streaks returned to action and scored an exciting 5-4 victory over Alleman.
    With the win, the GHS freshmen moved to 3-1 on the season. They will try for their fourth win
Friday when they host Pekin in a make-up game at 4:30 p.m.
    The dramatic victory came after Alleman rallied to tie the score in the top of the seventh. The Streaks took a 3-0 lead into the sixth before the Pioneers plated a solo run off starting pitcher Luke Ryan. Up until the sixth, the GHS hurler was untouchable. He had allowed only two hits in the first five innings, before yielding three in the sixth. He struck out 11 batters.
    The Streaks scored a solo run in the sixth to lead 4-1, but Alleman took advantage of a hit batter, a walk, back-to-back hits and a wild pitch to tie the score. Eventually, Tim Rossell came on in relief to get the final out of the inning. He would pick-up the win.
    In the bottom of the seventh, Brad Smith was hit by a pitch to lead-off the inning. Drew Carlson's hard ground ball was mishandled and then a balk put baserunners on second and third. Zack Riley then singled in Smith to end the game.
    Alleman out-hit GHS 7-6 in the contest, but committed two errors to the Streaks' one. Seth Morling and Riley led GHS with two hits apiece. Ryan and Smith had one each.
Freshmen Streaks shut out Macomb
4/9 - Cancellations have allowed GHS' freshmen baseball time to practice a lot more than play games lately, but it looked like some of that practice time has paid off as the young Streaks posted an impressive 8-0 victory, Wednesday.
    Thanks to some outstanding pitching and a potent offense, the GHS freshmen shut down a strong Macomb squad. With the win, the young Streaks moved to 2-1 on the season.
    Tim Rossell went the distance on the mound for the Streaks. He faced only 26 batters, allowing just three hits, striking out 13 and walking three.
    GHS grabbed a lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back. They added two in the second, three in the third and solo runs in both the fourth and fifth frames.
    Colton Crain led the attack with two hits. Luke Ryan hit a homerun to lead off the fifth and Seth Morling, Rossell and Drew Carlson all had doubles. Tyler Brackett and Brad Smith each had a single.
    Next up for the GHS freshmen will be Metamora on the road Friday and Moline at home Tuesday. The postponed Thursday home contest with Pekin has be rescheduled for Friday, April 17th,
Streak freshmen roll to first win
4/1 - A dominating pitching performance and plenty of offensive support earned GHS' freshmen baseball team a 17-0 victory over AlWood-Cambridge, here Wednesday.
    The win was the first of the season for the young Streaks as they finally returned to the diamond after a couple of rain-outs. They evened their season record at 1-1.
    Luke Ryan was in total command for the Streaks ont he mound. He took the victory, tossing four innings of no-hit baseball. He struck out eight and only allowed one baserunner on a fielding error. Andrew Marshall pitched a scoreless fifth as the GHS boys ended the game on the run-rule.
    The Streaks led just 2-0 going into the bottom of the third, but then exploded for 12 runs to put the contest away. They added three more in the fourth.

    Colton Crain was three-for-four at the plate and Seth Morling added two hits to lead the Streak attack. The home team collected seven hits and drew nine walks. D.J. Orozco and Austin Gernant also had hits for the Streaks.
    Next up for the GHS freshmen will be their first road game of the season Friday at Rockridge.
Rough start for Streak freshmen
3/23 - Sherrard scored eight runs after the third inning to hand the GHS freshmen baseball team an 11-1 six-inning loss in their home opener, Monday.
    The young Streaks were held to just four hits in the contest, but were in it, trailing just 2-1 going into the fourth inning. Errors and shaky pitching also played into the GHS boys' downfall.
    Tim Rossell took the pitching loss for the Streaks as they sent five men to the mound in the contest. Sherrard's starting pitcher Jake Fritchnick went four innings to pick up the victory. He allowed one run on two hits and struck out four.
     GHS' boys plated their only run in the third inning when Zach Wilke walked and eventually scored on a single by Rossell. In addition to Rossell's hit, Seth Morling, Tyler Brackett and Luke Ryan also had base-knocks.
     Thursday, the young Streaks will host Macomb in a 4:30 p.m. contest on the varsity field.
