Freshmen Season summary...
GHS freshmen sweep Rock Island
5/17 - (ROCK ISLAND) GHS' freshmen baseball team ended their season on a high note Saturday with a doubleheader sweep at Rock Island. The young Streaks topped Rocky 7-5 in the open and then completed the sweep with a 14-3 five-inning win in the nightcap.
    In the first game, Tyler Farrell started on the mound for the Streaks. He pitched five and a third innings with five strikeouts. Rebel Schott pitched the final one and two-thirds, allowing no runs and striking out one.
    Farrell, Brock Bush and David Slaton all had two hits to lead the Streaks at the plate in the opener. All three drove in two runs apiece.
    In the second game, Zack McCrery enjoyed big offensive support. He pitched all five innings, striking out five and scattering five hits.
    McCrery also led the Streaks at the plate with a three-for-four performance. Ben Whittle, Jared Carl, Tyler Inness and Preston Goedeke had two hits apiece. Carl had a double and triple.
    With the wins, the GHS freshmen posted a 7-7 season record.
GHS freshmen fall to Richwoods
5/15 - Peoria Richwoods scored eight runs in the final three innings to top GHS' freshmen baseball team 8-5, here Thursday night.
    With the loss, the young Streaks fell to 7-9. To reach the .500 mark on the season, the GHS freshmen will need a doubleheader sweep at Rock Island this Saturday in their final games of the season.
    Things looked good for the Streaks early as they grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning. They took that margin into the fifth inning before Richwoods got their offense in gear. The young Knights scored three in the top of the fifth to tie the score and pushed four more across in the sixth to take the lead for good. GHS managed solo runs in the sixth and seventh frames, but could not catch Richwoods.
    The Streaks' coach Chad Goad got nearly his entire roster into the final home game and they produced seven hits. Brock Bush, Nathan Mines, Jacob Baumgardner, Rebel Schott, Preston Goedeke, Ben Whittle and Logan Scott all had baseraps.
GHS freshmen drop two in Classic
5/10 - GHS' freshmen baseball team fell twice Saturday in the second annual Western Big 6 Freshmen Classic hosted by Streaks. Alleman topped the young Streaks in an 11-8 slugfest and Rock Island won the final game of the day 6-2. Pekin and Moline also played in the Classic.
    In the first game against Alleman, the key inning was an eight-run outburst by the Pioneers in third inning. From that point on, they coasted to victory. GHS starting pitcher Tyler Farrell took the loss, allowing six runs. Chris Fields finished the contest and allowed five.
    The Streaks score a pair of runs in the second and fourth innings, but only solo runs in the first, fifth, sixth and seventh frames. Zack McCrery, Chad Thompson, Garrett Williams and David Slaton had to two hits apiece to pace the Streaks. Logan Scott and Nathan Mines also had baseraps. McCrery and Scott both had doubles.
    Rock Island jumped out to a 6-0 lead with two runs in the third and four in the fourth and then sat on their lead the rest of the way. Larry Harris hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the Rocks.
    GHS managed just one run in the fourth and one in the sixth despite having a number of opportunities. The Streaks left 12 men on base.
    Rebel Scott took the pitching loss, surrendering all six runs. Thompson pitched the final three and a third innings, allowing Rocky no more runs.
    GHS had eight hits in the nightcap. Fields, Tyler Inness and Jared Carl had two hits apiece. Cody Kukuk and Brock Bush had one.
    With the two losses, the Streak freshmen fall to 7-8 on the season. They will play at Canton on Tuesday.
Streak freshmen defeat Limestone
5/6 - After a tough loss to Monmouth-Roseville's fresh-soph on Monday, the GHS freshmen baseball team rebounded to score a 12-7 victory over Limestone, here Tuesday.
    Rebel Schott pitched well for the winners, with eight strikeouts in the contest. He also helped the cause with a double and triple and four RBI's. Zack McCrery closed the game in relief with three more strikeouts.
    Chad Thompson and Tyler Inness had two hits apiece and Nathan Mines, Tyler Farrell, Kenny Malcom and David Slaton added one apiece.
    Saturday, the young Streaks will host the second Western Big 6 Freshmen Classic. They will take on Alleman and Rock Island. Also in the Classic will be Moline and Pekin.
Monmouth-Roseville edges freshmen
5/5 - An eight-run third inning propelled the Monmouth-Roseville fresh-soph past the GHS freshmen baseball team 14-13, here Monday.
    The young Streaks led 8-1 heading into the fateful third inning. GHS countered with four in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead 14-9, but got hit by another big Titan inning in the sixth. M-R plated five more runs and then hung on for the win.
    Jake Baumgardner took the pitching loss in relief of starter Preston Goedeke. The Streaks out-hit Monmouth-Roseville's crew 14 to 8. Twelve walks issued by GHS pitchers weighed heavily in the outcome. Nathan Mines, Chris Fields, Cody Kukuk, David Slaton and Logan Scott had two hits each to pace the Streaks' attack. Rebel Schott and Tyler Farrell also had basehits.
Limestone turns back GHS freshmen
4/29 - (BARTONVILLE) GHS' freshmen baseball team rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but fell just short in a 4-3 loss at Limestone, Tuesday.
    Neither team hit the ball particularly well in the contest, with walks and errors proving decisive. Both teams had just two hits. GHS committed four errors and Limestone, three.
    Streak starting pitcher Chad Thompson took the loss, pitching three innings and allowing three runs. Limestone scored one in the first inning and two in the second. They added one more run against Chris Fields, who pitched the final three innings. Fields struck out four and Thompson, two.
    GHS got hits from Logan Scott and Fields. Zack McCrery score one run on Cody Kukuk's sacrifice fly. McCrery and Scott both drove in runs in the Streaks' seventh inning rally. A couple of walks set the table, but in the end Scott was stranded at third with the potential tying run.
    Next up for the GHS freshmen will be a home game, weather-permitting, Friday against Canton.
Streak freshmen pound Monmouth-Roseville
4/23 - (MONMOUTH) GHS' freshmen baseball team allowed Monmouth-Roseville only one run, Wednesday, as they rolled to a 12-1 road victory.
    Despite the final margin, the game went the full seven innings as the Streaks did not reach the 10-run margin until their final at bats. The Streaks scored two runs in the first, third and seventh innings, a solo run in the fifth and five in the sixth. M-R's lone run came in the fifth inning.
    Rebel Schott enjoyed the offensive support as he picked up the pitching victory. Chad Thompson also saw action on the mound. The duo combined to strike out  eight Titan batters.
    The Streaks had 10 hits in the contest. Garrett Williams and Tyler Inness led the way with two hits apiece. Brock Bush, Nathan Mines, Cody Kukuk, Tyler Farrell, Kenny Malcolm and Thompson had one hit apiece.
Streak freshmen win twice
3/26 - GHS' freshmen baseball team rebounded from a season-opening loss on Monday to post wins on Tuesday and Wednesday.
    Tuesday, the young Streaks rolled to a 23-0 victory at East Peoria and Wednesday they beat AlWood 11-3 at home.
    Against East Peoria, the Raiders struggled on the mound and the GHS freshmen took full advantage pounding out a number of hits. Zack McCrery picked up the pitching victory, going five innings and striking out eight. McCrery was four-for-five at the plate. Nick Milligan had three hits and Cody Kukuk, Ben Whittle, Brock Bush, Jacob Baumgardner and Brendon Guthrie had two hits apiece
    Wednesday's game with AlWood was more competitive with the Streaks holding only a 5-2 lead after four innings. They added a run in the fifth and then put it away with five runs in the fifth inning. Chad Thompson handled the bulk of the pitching duties for the Streaks. He also had two hits. Baumgardner and Tyler Inness had three hits apiece. Ben Whittle had two and Rebel Schott and Inness both chipped in doubles to fuel the offensive attack.
    Friday, the GHS freshmen are scheduled to play at Rockridge.
GHS freshmen fall to Rock Island
3/24 - It was the first game for GHS' freshmen baseball team, Monday, and it showed in a 12-7 loss to Rock Island.
    The young Streaks started out fine and led 5-3 going into the fifth inning, but were outscored 10-2 over the final three innings.
    Rocky tied the score with three runs in the fifth and then took the lead for good with a five-run sixth.
    GHS' freshmen walked some batters and made some costly fielding errors, but managed plenty of baserunners, including nine in the final four innings.
    The freshmen Streaks are scheduled to travel to East Peoria, Tuesday for a 4:15 p.m. contest.
