Streak starting pitcher Derek Schwab. The GHS boys responded
with a solo run in their side of the fourth thanks to a
couple of Limestone fielding errors. In the sixth, the

hits, an error and a couple of walks fueled the rally.

unsuccessful double steal in the bottom of the seventh

lead for long. GHS plated four runs in their side of the
first and then increased their advantage to 7-1 with three

for GHS' freshmen will be at home on Friday against Peoria

| Big
innings push GHS freshmen past Dunlap |
| 4/10 - A seven-run third inning and a
five-run fifth were most than enough to allow the GHS
freshmen to even their early-season record, here Tuesday.

|
With
the win, which came on the heels of a 10-run loss the night
before, evened the GHS' boys record at 2-2. Starting pitcher
Nate Olin enjoyed the offensive support and picked up the
win for the Streaks. Derek Schwab was the leader at the
plate for GHS. He three-for-four with three singles. Jake
Henderson was two-for-two. Overall, the Streaks had 11 hits
in the contest. Justin Davidson, Mark Zhorne, Victor Davis,

| Errors sink freshmen
against Moline |
4/9 - It had been nearly two weeks since
the GHS freshmen baseball team had played a game and it
showed Monday as they committed six fielding errors en route
to a 12-2 loss to Moline. With the defeat, the young Streaks
fell to 1-2 on the season. If the weather cooperates, the
freshmen will host Dunlap on Tuesday. |
 |
Moline
turned in a solid effort. They managed a modest six
hits, but committed just one error in the contest. The big
inning for the young Maroons came in the top of the second
when they plated five runs. They went on to add a pair of
runs in both the fourth and fifth frames and three more in
the sixth to get to the 10-run margin. Nick Krantz and Caleb
Spiegel both had doubles for the winners. GHS' boys got both
their runs in the bottom of the fifth. A dropped third
strike and walk to open the inning set the table. Victor
Davis and Nate Olin had back-to-back singles to score the
runs. Starting pitcher Shane Clark took the loss for the
Streaks. He allowed five runs - none of which were earned - in
1 2/3 innings. Derek Schwab relieved and pitched into the

Streak
freshmen win home opener |
3/27 - Good pitching goes a long ways and
Tuesday GHS' freshmen baseball team put it to good use in an
11-1 victory over East Peoria in the home opener. Victor
Davis and Mark Zhorne looked strong on the mound, limiting
the visiting Raiders to only |
three
hits. The duo also combined for 12 strikeouts. Offensively, the young Streaks
got their runs in bunches - big bunches. GHS' boys scored
five runs in the second inning and added six more in the
fifth. The Streaks had seven hits in the contest, but took
advantage of 10 walks surrendered by East Peoria's hurlers.
Nate Olin led off the GHS second with a single and in the
inning the home team would get four more hits, including a
double by B.J. Buzick. With Davis allowing just one run in
four innings, it looked as if the Streaks had taken command.
The fifth inning put things out of reach as GHS drew eight
walks and plated six. Zhorne tossed three scoreless innings
to |
 |
|
finish things off. He
allowed only one hit and struck out five. East Peoria went
down in order in both the sixth and seventh innings. Seven players had one hit apiece for
the Streaks. Buzick had his double and Zhorne, Jake
Henderson, Olin, Jared Scott, Jake Taylor and Tyler Bond
added one single each. Friday, if the weather cooperates
again, the GHS freshmen will travel to Rockridge.

| Freshmen
fall to Rocky in opener |
| 3/26 - (ROCK ISLAND) The season opener was
delayed a week, but Monday the GHS freshmen got their
opportunity to kick off the 2007 season. The young Streaks
were competitive, but |
dropped a
road test at Rock Island 7-5. GHS' boys jumped out to a promising start, scoring a run
in the top of the first and two more in their side of the
second for a 3-0 lead. Unfortunately, the lead was
short-lived as Rocky countered with a pair of runs in the
bottom of the second and third innings to take a 4-3 lead.
From that point on, the Streaks were forced to play
catch-up. A three-run fourth extended the Rocks' advantage
to 7-3. Solo runs for GHS' boys in the fifth and sixth
innings brought them back, but not far enough. Jake Taylor,
who pitched two innings and allowed four runs, was saddled
with the loss. Nate Olin toss a scoreless first inning and
Trevor Roberts finished the final three innings, allowing
three runs. The Streaks held their own at the plate,
matching the Rocks with nine hits. Mark Zhorne was the leader
for GHS getting two hits and scoring two runs. Jake
Henderson, Steven Joseph, Roberts, Jared Scott, |
 |
|
Taylor, Zach Dixon and B.J. Buzick each had a baserap.
Perhaps the offensive "killer" for the Streaks was the
strikeout. The GHS boys went down on strikes 10 times in the
contest. Weather-permitting, the GHS freshmen (0-1) will play their
first game at home Tuesday against East Peoria. |
