Season notes:
Canton tops sophs in extra innings
5/15 - (CANTON) It took nine innings, but eventually Canton prevailed 5-4 over the GHS sophomore baseball team, Tuesday.
    With the loss, the young Streaks fell to 16-13 on the season with one game remaining Thursday at home against Moline.
    With both teams parading out a number of pitchers, the teams battled tough. Canton took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning, but saw GHS respond with a tying run in the top of the second. Canton again took the lead with a solo run in the fifth, but it was short-lived as the Streaks plated three in the sixth. Two more Canton runs in the bottom of the frame left the score tied 4-4 and it stayed that way uintil the bottom of the ninth.
    Peyton Isaacson took the pitching loss, allowing one unearned run in two and two-thirds innings of relief. NIck Foster started the game for the Streaks and pitched three innings. Logan Davis and Dylan Klinck followed and took the game into the seventh.
    Both teams ended up with eight hits in the contest. Foster led the Streaks with three hits. Ryan Osborn and Chris Anderson had two apiece; and Jake Thompson, one.
Third try successful for Richwoods
5/11 - (METAMORA) Peoria Richwoods proved that anything is possible on any given day as they posted an 8-5 victory over GHS' varsity baseball team Friday in the Metamora Classic.
    After getting clobbered twice, the Knights took advantage of some shaky Streak pitching, some fielding errors and a punch-less offense to beat an opponent they may likely see in the Regional next week.
    With the loss, GHS' varsity fell to 23-8. The Streaks were scheduled to play on Saturday in the Classic but were rained out for the second year in a row.
    Chans Sugden drew the pitching start for GHS and was greeted with four runs in the first inning. The Knights tagged him for three more in the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Ian Milligan came on in relief and held Richwoods to only one run the rest of the contest, giving the Streaks a chance to rally. The offense, unfortunately, wasn't quite up to the task as GHS could only manage five runs off Knight pitcher Zach Boland, who went the distance. The Streaks plated two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the seventh.
    Next up for the Streaks will be a non-conference game at home on Thursday against Moline and the weekend Streaks' Classic.
Sophomores shut out East Peoria
5/11 - Peyton Isaacson fired a complete game three-hit shut out, here Friday, to lead the GHS sophomore baseball team to a 7-0 victory over East Peoria.
    Isaacson struck out 10 batters in the contest. The Streaks sophs improved to 16-12 on the season with just two games left. They will travel to Canton on Tuesday and host Moline in a non-conference game Thursday.
Streaks defeat Rock Island again
5/10 - (ROCK ISLAND) Beating a team three times in a row is never easy. Thursday, GHS' varsity baseball team topped Rock Island for the third time this season 5-2 in a non-conference battle.
    With the win, the Streaks improved to 23-7 on the on the season. They will play twice this weekend at the Metamora Classic. On Friday they will meet up with Peoria Richwoods for the third time and then Saturday afternoon take on Pekin for the second time this season.
    Against Rock Island, GHS had to overcome an improving Rocky squad. The hosts jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Streaks tied the score in their side of the second. After Rock Island regained the lead with another run in the bottom of the inning, the Streaks took the lead for good in the fourth with a pair of runs. They would add solo runs in the sixth and seventh to make the final margin three runs.
    Austin Gernant picked up the pitching victory, going six innings. Tim Rossell pitched the seventh. The Streaks had only five hits in the contest and were able to manufacture some runs and take advantage of some Rocky errors. Rossell led the attack with a double to lead off the fourth - that was the first  hit off Rock Island's Reese Argo. Carson Cheesman had an RBI single.
Streak sophs rally past Rock Island
5/10 - (ROCK ISLAND) A nine-run sixth inning proved exactly what GHS' sophomore baseball team needed to post a 13-8 non-conference victory over Rock Island, Thursday.
    With the win, the young Streaks assured themselves of at least a .500 season as they improved to 15-12, with three games left on the schedule.
    Rock Island grabbed and 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. GHS eventually went ahead 4-3 in the fourth, but then surrendered four runs to the Rocks in the fifth to fall behind 7-4. The nine-run outburst put the Streaks ahead to stay.
    Bryce DeJaynes picked up the pitching victory. He went two and a third innings in relief of Jake Thompson and allowed only two runs on two hits.
    GHS out-hit Rock Island 15-10 in the contest. Dylan Klinck and Peyton Isaacson had four hits apiece to lead the attack. Klinck drove in four runs and Isaacson, three. Chris Anderson had three hits and Matt Kohl, Ryan Osborn, Logan Davis and Bryce Reid had one hit each. 
Peoria Notre Dame tops Streaks
5/8 - Playing with pretty much a junior varsity line-up, GHS' varsity baseball team were handed a 6-1 loss by Peoria Notre Dame, here Tuesday.
    With the non-conference setback, the Streaks fell to 22-7 on the season. They will likely start playing starters again Thursday when the travel to Rock Island for a non-conference game.
    Notre Dame took advantage of a some walks, an error and a hit batsman to plate two runs in the first inning. A ground-out brought in the first Irish run and a two-out bloop single that was misplayed brought in two more. Notre Dame would never trail. They added two more in the fourth as GHS committed three errors in the frame and added one more in the fifth.
    The lone Streak run came in the sixth when Luke Ryan was walked with the bases loaded with nobody out. Unfortunately for the Streaks, the next two batters struck out and third popped out to the catcher to kill the potential rally.
    Ryan took the pitching loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out five. Matt Lansing tossed a scoreless seventh.
    Notre Dame's John Cusak held GHS hitless through five innings before being yanked in the Streaks' sixth inning uprising. He allowed three hits, struck out three and walked two. Jake Hurst came on in relief and retired six of the seven me he faced.
    Nathan Perez, Ian Milligan and Drew Nall had one hit apiece for the Streaks.
Freshmen rally to nip Limestone
5/8 - GHS' freshmen baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to come from behind and beat Limestone 5-4, here Tuesday.
    With the win, the young Streaks improve to 7-7 on the season with a big week ahead of them. They will host Ridgewood and Thursday and travel to Rock Island Saturday for a doubleheader.
    The game against Limestone was scoreless until the top of the third when the visiting Rockets plated four runs. A pair of walks issued to lead off the inning and back-to-back singles sent Limestone on their way to a 4-0 lead. The Streaks scored solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the deficit to 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. A pair of walked started the GHS rally. After a sacrifice, a couple of passed balls and basehit by Jason Maulden brought home the game-winner.
    Dylan Hopping earned the pitching victory in relief of Cal Morling, who went four innings. Both pitchers struck out four Limestone batters. The Streaks finished with four hits. Josh Fliss had two and Maulden and Christopher Kelley, one each.
Streaks are WB 6 champs
5/5 - A doubleheader sweep of Alleman Saturday gave GHS' varsity baseball team the outright championship of the Western Big 6 conference.
    With the 6-2 and 8-6 victories, the Streaks (22-6) finished league play 8-2, one game ahead of runner-up Moline.
    In the opener, the Streaks and starting pitched Tim Rossell got off to a rough start as Alleman jump ahead 2-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but that would be all the Pioneers would get as Rossell retired 16 of the final 17 batters to face him.
    GHS scored a solo run in the bottom of the first and took the lead in the third with three more runs. They added two more in the sixth on a Chans Sugden double. Carson Cheesman went three-for-four at the plate to lead the Streaks and that they capitalized a number of walks issued. Seth Morling drew four walks and Chad Johnson, three. Rossell finished conference play with a perfect 5-0 conference pitching record.
    With a piece of the conference title in their pocket after winning the first game and learning Moline had fallen to United Township, the Streaks needed a real team effort to obtain the outright title.
    Austin Gernant drew the start and surrender two first inning runs to the Pioneers, but the Streaks answered with three in their side of the frame. GHS added five more in second inning. A key blow was Morling's two-run double. After that inning, the Streaks could plate no more runs, but they were able to let their big lead stand up. Sugden earned the save, pitching the final three innings after Alleman had rallied back to within two runs.
    Tuesday, the Streaks will host Peoria Notre Dame in a non-conference game.
Streaks sophomores split with Alleman
5/5 - GHS' sophomore baseball team wrapped up their conference season Saturday with a doubleheader split with Alleman. The visiting Pioneers won the first game 7-2, but GHS rebounded to take the nightcap 7-4.
    The split left the Streaks exactly 4-4 in league play. Their games originally schedule against Quincy were dropped when the Saturday date was cancelled.
    In the first game, Alleman really put it away late, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Going into that final frame, they lead 3-2.
    Jake Thompson took the pitching loss for the Streaks. He went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked three. Logan Davis went the next one and two-thirds innings and was touched for four unearned runs. Cal Morling came in to get the final out.
    Dylan Klinck led GHS at the plate with three hits. Matt Kohl had two and Peyton Isaacson and Ryan Osborn had one apiece. Alleman out-hit the Streaks 9-7.
    In the nightcap, the Streaks scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings to erase a 3-1 deficit and take the lead for good. Nick Foster earned the pitching victory. He worked three innings and allowed three runs on three hits. Klinck and Isaacson went two innings apiece. Klinck was touched for one run in the fifth. Isaacson struck out two.
    Offensively, the Streaks were again out-hit, but they were not to be out-scored. Foster had two hits and three RBI's. Isaacson, Kohl, Osborn and Jason Maulden had one hit each.
    The GHS sophomores (15-12) will play a non-conference game Thursday at Rock Island.
20th victory for Streaks varsity
5/3 - GHS' varsity baseball team reached the 20-win plateau Thursday as they defeated United Township 5-0 in a non-conference game.
    Senior Luke Ryan pitched six innings and allowed just two hits to the Panthers for the win. Tim Rossell tossed a scoreless seventh. Ryan struck out four and walked only two. He worked his way out of bases loaded jam in the fifth to preserve the shutout.
    Chans Sugden proved most of GHS' offense. He tripled in the first run of the game in the fourth and drove in another run in the fifth. The Streaks plated a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth frames and added a solo run in the sixth.
    GHS had just five hits in the contest with Sugden collecting three. Tanner Guss-Laird and Drake Sykes had the other two hits.
    The Streaks (20-6) will host Alleman Saturday in their final Western Big 6 doubleheader of the season.
Streak sophomores lose to U.T.
5/3 - It did not take long for GHS' sophomore baseball team to dig a hole they could not escape from Thursday as they lost a non-conference game to United Township 13-5.
    With the loss, the Streak sophomores fell to 13-12 on the season. They finished 1-2 against United Township this season.
    U.T. scored nine runs in the top of the first inning. Logan Davis and Dylan Hopping were greeted by six and three runs respectively. Eight pitchers saw action for the Streaks, who used rest of the as a chance to prepare for Saturday's final conference doubleheader with Alleman.
    The Panthers pounded out 15 hits in the contest, but only scored four more runs over the final six innings. GHS scored one in the first and two in both the third and fourth frames. They finished with nine hits. Dylan Klinck, Peyton Isaacson and Nick Foster had two hits apiece. Matt Kohl, Ryan Osborn and Todd Motz had one each. Isaacson drove in two runs.
Streaks fall to O'Fallon at Busch
4/29 - (ST. LOUIS) GHS' varsity baseball team capped off a busy weekend which included a doubleheader sweep of Rock Island and Prom with a trip to St. Louis to watch a Cardinals' game and play O'Fallon at Busch Stadium. The game, which turned out to be more about making sure everyone got a chance to play on the major league field than winning, was won by O'Fallon 9-2.
    With the loss, the Streaks fall to 19-6 on the season.
    The contest was scoreless through the first three innings as Austin Gernant battled with O'Fallon's frontline pitcher. In the fourth inning, GHS relief pitcher Matt Lansing was tagged for five runs on five hits and from that point on, O'Fallon would never trail. Drake Sykes, Chans Sugden and Ian Milligan also saw on the mound for GHS.
    Chad Johnson gave the Streaks a highlight, hitting a homerun over the rightfield fence in the GHS side of the fourth. The Streaks brought 18 varsity players and eight more underclassmen on the trip.
Streaks stay in first place
4/28 - One weekend down and one more to go. GHS' varsity baseball team swept Rock Island 3-0 and 4-1 Saturday to stayed tied for first place with Moline in the Western Big 6 with one weekend remaining.
    With the wins, the Streaks improved to 6-2 in conference play and 19-5 on the season. A sweep of Alleman next Saturday would assure GHS of at least a piece of the conference title, their first since 2004. Moline will finish with United Township, the team that knocked Alleman out of a three-way tie with a doubleheader split.
    In the first game against Rock Island, GHS' Tim Rossell fired a complete game five-hit shutout. The right hander struck out eight and walked two while scattering Rocky's hits. Rocky's Tyler Pearson held GHS scoreless in all but one inning. He struck out six, walked two and allowed four hits.
    In the fifth inning, Austin Gernant led off with a single. After a sacrifice by Zach Riley, Carson Cheesman singled and Drake Sykes followed with a triple to plate two runs. A sacrifice fly by Chad Johnson gave the Streaks their third and final run. Three of GHS' hits came in the fifth. Tanner Guss-Laird had an infield hit in the fourth.
    In the nightcap, both teams plated a run in the first inning and the score remained ties until the bottom of the fourth. A two-run single by Drew Nall put the Streaks ahead to stay. GHS added one more run in the sixth on a Cheesman RBI single.
    Colton Crain picked up his first conference win in his first conference start. He shook off a rough start to go six innings and allow just three hits. He struck out six. Cheesman pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.
    The Streaks had six hits in the nightcap. Nall went 3-for-3 and Cheesman, Sykes and Crain added one hit apiece.
    Next up for the Streaks will be a game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis against O'Fallon Sunday after the Cardinals vs. Brewers game.
Sophomore Streaks sweep Rock Island
4/28 - GHS' sophomore baseball team climbed back to .500 in conference play, Saturday, with a doubleheader sweep of Rock Island. The Streaks took the opener 10-4 and the nightcap 2-0 to improve to 13-11 on the season and 3-3 in Western Big 6 play.
    In the first game, Rock Island jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and held that advantage until the bottom of the second when GHS plated five runs. The Streaks would never trail after that as they added three more runs in the fifth and two the sixth.
    Jake Thompson earned the pitching victory, going four innings allowing three runs. Dylan Klinck pitched the final three innings and was touched for just one run.
    The Streaks were out-hit 13-9 in the opener, but took advantage of five walks. Peyton Isaacson hit a two-homer to pace the Streaks' attack. He and Nick Foster each had two hits. Klinck, Matt Kohl, Ryan Osborn, Logan Davis and Todd Motz added one hit apiece.
    In the nightcap, it was all about pitching. The Streaks scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and made that lead stand up. Logan Davis tossed six scoreless innings for the win. He allowed five hits, walked two and struck out eight. Isaacson pitched the seventh for the save. He struck out two.
    Klinck scored the Streaks' first run on a wild pitch after singling to open frame and advancing on Isaacson's double. Kohl eventually drove home Isaacson with a ground out. GHS had only three hits, with two coming in the first inning. Kohl got a single in the sixth. Rock Island finished with six hits and stranded nine baserunners.
    GHS' sophomores will travel to Peoria Richwoods Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. game originally scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Streaks roll over Richwoods
4/26 - (PEORIA) Taking command from the start, GHS' varsity baseball team needed only five innings to dispense with Peoria Richwoods 19-1, Thursday.
    Drake Sykes was the winning pitcher for the Streaks as he enjoyed plenty of the run-support. Sykes went three innings for the win before yielding the mound to Matt Lansing in the fourth.
    The Streaks scored seven runs in the first inning, two in the third, seven in the fourth and three in the fifth. Chad Johnson hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning uprising. Seth Morling joined Johnson with three RBI's on the day and Tanner Guss-Laird and Austin Gernant also had two hits apiece on the day.
    Saturday, the Streaks (17-5) will return to Western Big 6 action as they host Rock Island in a league doubleheader. They will travel to St. Louis Sunday to watch the Cardinals game and play a contest against O'Fallon High School.
Monmouth-Roseville tops freshmen
4/25 - (MONMOUTH) Allowing eight runs in the first two innings was not a recipe for success for GHS' freshmen baseball team, Wednesday, as they fell to Monmouth-Roseville 9-6.
    With the loss, the young Streaks fell to 6-6 on the season. White M-R plated four runs in both the first and second innings, GHS was limited to one run in the first, two in the fourth and three in an insufficient seventh-inning comeback.
    Austin Heady took the pitching loss, going just one inning. Mark Ojeda and Colton German loss saw action on the mound for the Streaks. GHS out-hit the Titans 6-5, but issued seven walks to help the home team on they way. Christopher Kelley led the Streaks with two hits and Cal Morling, Spencer Melvin, Mateo Villareal and J.J. Range had one apiece.
Sophomores rally to top Washington
4/24 - (WASHINGTON) Matt Kohl's clutch hit in the GHS sophomore baseball team's final at bats drove a pair of runs and helped the Streaks slip past Washington 8-7, Tuesday.
    With the win, the GHS sophomores improved to 11-10 on the season. They will host Rock Island Saturday in conference play.
    The Streaks took a 1-0 lead against Washington with a solo run in the second inning and then fell behind 2-1, before plating four runs in the fourth inning. Eventually, Washington regained the lead and took a 7-5 advantage into the seventh.
    Nick Foster earned the pitching victory for the Streaks. He was the third of four pitchers to see action for GHS. Dylan Klinck started the contest and pitched into the third. Logan Davis followed and Foster came on the fifth. Peyton Isaacson earned the save, pitching a scoreless bottom of the seventh with two strikeouts.
    The Streaks out-hit Washington 10-8. Kohl and Ryan Osborn led GHS with two hits apiece. Klinck, Isaacson, Foster, Davis, Bryce Dejaynes and Chris Anderson had one hit each. Klinck had three RBI's.
GHS freshmen get past Alleman
4/23 - Alleman's late rally fell short as the GHS' freshmen baseball team picked up their sixth win of the season 7-5 at home, Monday.
    The victory, their second of the season against the Pioneers, moved the young Streaks to 6-5 for the 2012 campaign.
    Jason Maulden picked up the pitching victory for the Streaks. He went four innings and left with a 4-1 lead. Dutch Ryan and Cal Morling finished up the contest.
    GHS scored two in the first inning, solo runs in the second, third and fifth frames and two more in the sixth. Those two runs in the sixth proved huge as Alleman scored twice in the top of the seventh.
    Both teams finished with 11 hits in the contest. Morling, Mark Ojeda and Maulden had two hits apiece and Josh Fliss, Matt Kohl, Colton German, Ryan and Christopher Kelley added one each.
    GHS' freshmen will travel to Monmouth-Roseville Wednesday.
Streaks tied for first with split
4/21 - (MOLINE) GHS' varsity baseball team began the day in a three-way tie for first place in the Western Big 6 conference and at the end of the day nothing had changed. The Streaks split their doubleheader at Moline. They won the opener 4-2 and dropped the nightcap 4-0.
    By virtue of the split and a split for Alleman, the three conference leaders did not change.
    In the opener, Tim Rossell moved his conference pitching record to 3-0 with a solid performance against Moline. He did not get the complete game, but went six innings, allowing just one run. Moline managed one more run against Colton Crain, the big guy would not give up the lead for the save.
    GHS broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth inning. Chans Sugden led off the uprising with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly be Seth Morling. The other two runs were added with a pair of singles and a double by Drew Nall.
     In the second game, the Streaks' offense went cold. After GHS left the bases loaded in the top of the third, Moline grabbed the lead in the bottom of the frame. Austin Gernant took the pitching loss for the Streaks. He pitched into the sixth, trailing 2-0, before Moline added two more runs for insurance.
    Moline's pitcher finished with a three-hitter. He retired the final 13 Streaks in order.
    The GHS varsity will travel to Peoria Richwoods Thursday and then, next Saturday, host Rock Island in another Western Big 6 doubleheader.
Moline sweeps Streak sophomores
4/21 - (MOLINE) It was not a good day for GHS' sophomore baseball team, Saturday, as they dropped both ends of a conference doubleheader to Moline 11-1 in six innings and 8-3.
    With the losses, the young Streaks fell to 1-3 in Western Big 6 play and 10-10 on the season.
    In the first game, Moline dominated, holding GHS' sophs to just one run on three hits. The Streaks were frustrated as they struck out only twice, walked four times and were aided by five Moline errors, but only scraped up one run. Moline posted four-run innings in the third and sixth to put the contest away.
    Nick Foster, a last-minute starter, took the loss. Dylan Hopping and Josh Fliss also saw action on the mound. Foster, Chris Anderson and Matt Kohl had the only hits for the Streaks.
    In the nightcap, the game went the full seven innings, but the result was the same. Moline took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning when GHS was finally able to score. The Streak only got one run and eventually saw Moline roll to an 8-1 advantage before they would score again. Peyton Isaacson drove in two runs in the top of the seventh for the Streaks final tallies.
    Cal Morling took the pitching loss for GHS. He lasted one-plus inning and was touch for three runs. Isaacson and Bryce DeJaynes also pitched for the Streaks. GHS had seven hits in the contest. Kohl led with two hits and Dylan Klinck, Isaacson, Ryan Osborn, Todd Motz and DeJaynes had one apiece. 
Freshmen edge Pekin in 9 innings
4/20 - Dylan Hopping singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, here Friday, as the GHS freshmen baseball team topped Pekin 8-7 in extra Innings.
    Hopping, the fourth Streak pitcher to see action, picked up the win in relief. Dylan Klinck started the contest and went three innings, but left trailing 3-0. Chris Anderson toss the next two inning and held Pekin at bay as the Streaks took the lead with four runs in the fifth. Todd Motz followed for the next two innings, before yielding the mound to Hopping.
    Pekin tied the score in the sixth and took the lead with a solo run in the seventh. GHS plated a run in the bottom of the frame to send the contest into extra innings. Pekin and GHS both scored two runs in the eighth, before the home team eventually won it in the ninth. The Streaks out-hit Pekin 12-9.
    Hopping, Jason Maulden, Josh Fliss and Cal Morling had two hits apiece to lead the Streaks. Chris Anderson, Klinck, Matt Kohl and Colton German added one each.
    The GHS freshmen started the second game of the doubleheader, but it was called after three innings with the score tied 3-3. Monday, the young Streaks will host Alleman.
GHS sophomores top Washington
4/19 - Logan Davis and Bryce DeJaynes combined for a one-hitter on the mound to lead the GHS sophomore baseball team to a 6-1 victory over Washington, here Thursday.
    With the win, the Streak sophs improved to 10-8 on the season. GHS took the lead early in the contest and gave up Washington's only run in the final inning.
    Jake Thompson led GHS with two hits in the contest. Matt Kohl and Dylan Klinck also had hits. The Streaks took good advantage of nine walks issued by Washington pitchers. Klinck, Davis, Nick Foster and Todd Motz all had RBI's.
    GHS' sophomores will travel to Moline Saturday for a conference doubleheader.
Streaks shut out Richwoods
4/18 - After practically giving away one non-conference game Tuesday, the GHS varsity baseball team was not in a "giving" mood Wednesday as they thumped Peoria Richwoods 11-0 in five innings.
    Colton Crain took control on the mound and the Streaks' offense bounced back with a vengeance, scoring in each inning. Crain limited Richwoods to just two hits in four innings and struck out five. Matt Lansing allow one hit, but get through a scoreless seventh to preserve the shutout.
    The Streaks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Chans Sugden's sacrifice fly which plated Carson Cheesman. They added three in the second thanks to four hits. Richwoods gave GHS a run in the third on a pair of errors and then came the big inning. The Streaks sent 10 men to the plate in the fourth and scored six runs. Chad Johnson highlighted the uprising with a two-run homer to get things started.
    The Streaks out-hit Richwoods 10-3. Tanner Guss-Laird, Johnson and Sugden had two hits apiece. Cheesman, Seth Morling, Zach Riley and Drew Nall had one each.
    Saturday the Streaks, now 15-4 on the season, will travel to Moline for a key Western Big 6 doubleheader.
Morton hands Streaks 4th loss
4/17 - (MORTON) It was a game GHS varsity baseball coach Arnie Gonzalez were worried about. His premonition proved to be right on the head as the Streaks struggled Tuesday after winning a big conference doubleheader on Monday. Morton (13-3) proved to be the lucky opponent as they topped the Streaks 5-2 on their new field.
    While starting pitcher Carson Cheesman pitched well, the GHS bats did not support the left-hander. Morton scored an unearned run in the first inning to take the lead. Two more unearned runs in the third made it 3-0. A dropped fly ball and a wild throw proved damaging to the Streaks as Morton would take advantage. GHS came back with two runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 3-2 as Drew Diaz and Nate Perez came up with RBI's. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Streaks would get. Morton scored two more insurance runs in the sixth.
    GHS' varsity will have a chance to get back on the winning track Wednesday as they host Peoria Richwoods in another non-conference game.
Dunlap shuts out Streak sophomores
4/17 - (DUNLAP) GHS' sophomore baseball team took their bats with them to Dunlap Tuesday, but didn't use them well as they fell to the host Eagles 6-0.
    With the loss, the Streak sophomores dropped to 9-8 on the season. They will host Washington on Thursday.
    Dunlap took a 1-0 lead in the third and made it 4-0 with a three-run outburst in the fourth. The Eagles added solo runs in the fifth and sixth.
    Two pitchers held GHS at bay on only one hit, despite walked eight. Jake Thompson took the pitching loss for the Streaks, going three innings and allowing four runs on three hits. GHS committed four fielding errors. Nick Foster and Peyton Isaacson also saw action on the mound allowing one run apiece.
    The only hit mustered by GHS was a single by Chris Anderson.
Sweep keeps Streaks in WB 6 race
4/16 - Delayed until Monday, the wait proved worthwhile for the GHS varsity baseball team as they swept Quincy 2-0, 9-4 at Sundberg Field.
    With the wins, the Streaks improved to 3-1 in Western Big 6 play and 14-3, overall. They will go into the third weekend of league play tied with Moline and Alleman atop the standings.
    In the opener, it was all about pitching for GHS as Tim Rossell posted his second shutout of the conference season. The senior allowed just two hits and struck out 13 in the contest.
    The Streaks were offensively challenged in the opener, but scraped up solo runs in the first and fourth innings. The first run scored on an error and the second run was plated on an RBI single from Austin Gernant.
    Tanner Guss-Laird, who scored the first run, had two hits to lead the Streaks' six-hit attack. Chad Johnson, Drake Sykes, Carson Cheesman and Gernant had the other baseraps.
    Quincy's starting pitcher Adrew Eilers took the loss. He went five innings.
    In the nightcap, Gernant struggled at bit on the mound, but got plenty of offensive support. Gernant went five innings, allowed six hits, three earned runs and struck out six. Colton Crain tossed one inning, striking out the side, and Matt Lansing threw the seventh.
    The Streaks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Chans Sugden tripled in the first two runs and scored Cheesman's ground out. Quincy came back with two in the second to cut the deficit to 3-2, but GHS responded with two more in the bottom of the frame. Quincy scored another run in the third before the Streaks pulled away. Chad Johnson clubbed a two-run homer for GHS' final two runs.
    Johnson and Seth Morling had two hits apiece to lead the Streaks in the nightcap. Sugden, Cheesman, Sykes, Rossell, Zach Riley, Ian Milligan and Nathan Perez had one hit each.
    Tuesday, the Streaks will travel to Morton for a non-conference game. They will host Richwoods on Wednesday.
Streak freshmen pound Alleman
4/12 - (MOLINE) GHS' freshmen baseball team had 15 hits in a 19-8 five-inning victory at Alleman Thursday.
    With the win, the young Streaks improved to 4-3 on the season.
    The Streaks scored in each inning played. They got three in the first, two in the second, six in the third and four in both the fourth and fifth innings. Alleman posted a pair of three-run innings and a pair of one-run frames.
    GHS used three pitchers in the contest. Dylan Hopping, the starter, got the win. He went three inning and allowed four runs on four hits. Chris Anderson and Mark Ojeda also saw action on the mound.
    Colton German led the Streaks at the plate with three hits. Cal Morling, Ojeda, Matt Kohl and Austin Heady had two hits apiece and Jason Maulden, Hopping, J.J. Range and Michael Williams, one each. German drove in four runs and Kohl three.
    The GHS freshmen will travel to AlWood Friday and host United Township on Tuesday.
Pekin gets past Streak sophomores
4/10 - Two big innings and a lot zeroes...that's how Tuesday's sophomore baseball game went between Pekin and the GHS sophomores. Pekin's slightly bigger inning proved to be decisive as the Dragons edged the Streaks 6-4.
    With the non-conference loss, the GHS sophomores fell to 9-7 on the season.
    Pekin scored all six of their runs in the second inning to take a lead, they would never relinquish. The Streaks would answer with four in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit, but after that neither team could score. Peyton Isaacson, who took the pitching loss, drove in three of the Streaks' runs with a base-clearing triple. Nick Foster then drove him home.
    GHS threatened a few times, but could not get anything done in the next four innings. Both teams had six hits, but GHS committed five errors to Pekin's three on the windy afternoon. Isaacson and Dylan Klinck had two hits apiece to lead the Streaks. Ryan Osborn and Chris Anderson also chipped in hits.
    Isaacson pitched six innings and struck out nine. Only one of the six runs scored against him were earned. Foster pitched the final inning.
    Next up for the GHS sophomores will Metamora at home on Friday. They will host Quincy in Western Big 6 play, Saturday.
Alleman outscores GHS sophomores
4/9 - (MOLINE) Commit 11 errors and win? Most people would say it doesn't happen, but Tuesday, Alleman proved that it certainly can as they beat the GHS sophomore baseball team 14-9 on a windy afternoon in the Quad Cities.
    With the non-conference loss, the Streak sophs fell to 9-6 on the season. They will host Pekin Tuesday.
    Things started out in a promising fashion for the Streaks against Alleman as they plated three runs. However, Alleman responded with four in their side of the frame. Another run for the Streaks tied the score in the top of the second, but Alleman came back with three. GHS then scored four to take an 8-7 lead before Alleman took the lead for good with a three-spot in the bottom of the inning. After the third, GHS would only get one more run.
    Bryce DeJaynes took the pitching loss for the Streaks. He pitched one and a third innings in relief of starter Logan Davis. Dylan Hopping and Dylan Klinck also saw action on the mound.
    Alleman out-hit the Streaks 8-6, but also committed 11 errors to GHS' two. Leading the Streaks at the plate was Klinck with two hits. One of them was a triple. Nick Foster, Todd Motz, Bryce Reid, and Jason Maulden has one hit apiece.
Streaks split with United Township
4/7 - (EAST MOLINE) Great pitching on both sides produced a doubleheader split Saturday as GHS' varsity baseball team took on United Township. Streaks won the opener 3-0 and lost the nightcap 2-1.
    With the split, the GHS varsity moved to 1-1 in conference play and 11-3 overall. U.T. moved to the same record in conference and 8-6 on the season.
    Tim Rossell fired a two-hitter in the opener to pick up the shutout victory. He walked only one and struck out six.
    The Streaks plated their three runs in the second inning. Luke Ryan doubled to lead off the inning. A hit batter and an error loaded the bases. Carson Cheesman walked to force in the first run and Austin Gernant drove in the second on a sacrifice fly. The third run scored on another U.T. error.
    In the second game, Gernant and U.T.'s Connor Gunnerman squared off in a pitchers' duel. The game was scoreless until the fifth when U.T. got on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly. GHS tied the score in the sixth. They got a single run, but left the bases loaded. The missed opportunity to get more runs came back to haunt the Streaks as a fielding error helped U.T. get what would prove to the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
    This week, the varsity Streaks have a non-conference game scheduled for Thursday against Pekin at home and Saturday they will host Quincy in another Western Big 6 doubleheader.
GHS sophomores split doubleheader
4/7 - (EAST MOLINE) After dropping the conference opener to United Township 4-3, the GHS sophomore baseball team rebounded to beat the Panthers in the nightcap 6-0.
    With the split, the sophomore Streaks moved to 9-5 on the season. They will travel to Alleman Monday for a non-conference contest and will host Pekin on Tuesday.
    In the first game against U.T., the Streaks scored three runs in the second inning and held that 3-0 margin until the bottom of the fifth. In that frame, the Panthers posted four runs and made it stand for the victory.
    Jake Thompson took the pitching loss for GHS. He pitched into the fifth inning before yielding the hill to Cal Morling, who finished the game. Thompson allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out five.
    Both teams finished with eight hits in the opener. Peyton Isaacson and Josh Fliss had two apiece to lead the Streaks. Nick Foster, Logan Davis, Todd Motz and Bryce Reid had one each.
    In the nightcap, Foster and Isaacson combined for the shutout. Foster allowed just three hits and struck out four. Isaacson struck out the side in his one inning of relief.
    The Streaks scored a run on an error in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, they put the game away with a five-run uprising. Errors again played a part in the GHS scoring, but Ryan Osborn managed a two-run single in the rally.
    The Streaks finished with eight hits. Osborn and Isaacson had two apiece and Davis, Motz, Fliss and Jason Maulden had one each.
Freshmen Streaks top Metamora
4/6 - GHS' freshmen baseball team snapped a two-game losing streak here Friday with a 9-6 victory over Metamora.
    With the win, the young Streaks improved to 3-2 on the season while Metamora slipped to 2-5.
    Metamora took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but GHS eventually tied the score with a solo run in the second. The visiting Redbirds added run in the top of the fourth, but the Streaks plated three in their side. A three-run fifth put Metamora back on top briefly before GHS scored three in their side and two more in the sixth. They would not look back.
    Colton German earned the pitching victory for the Streaks in relief. He was one of four pitchers to see action for the home team. Mark Ojeda started the contest and pitched into the fourth before yielding the mound to Chris Anderson, German and Jason Maulden.
    GHS had seven hits in the contest. Dylan Hopping led the way with three and five RBI's. Anderson, Dutch Ryan, J.J. Range and Todd Motz had one each.
    The next action for the GHS freshmen will be at Moline on Tuesday.
Pekin walks past Streak freshmen
4/5 - (PEKIN) After winning their first two games of the season, GHS' freshmen baseball team has stumbled. Thursday, they dropped their second in row at Pekin 6-3.
    Ten walks issued to Pekin haunted the young Streaks in the contest as they out-hit the Dragons 8-5 on the day.
    Pekin used three walks and a single to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Three more walks, a hit, a sacrifice fly and a field error increased the Pekin lead to 4-0 in the second. From there on, the Dragons would not trail. GHS got on the scoreboard in the third inning on a two-run single by Mark Ojeda. They would eventually cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth with a solo run, before Pekin would add insurance runs in the fifth and sixth.
    Dutch Ryan took the pitching loss for the Streaks. He was relieved by Josh Fliss. Ryan walked six and allowed four runs. Fliss allowed two runs and struck out six.
    Fliss led the Streaks at the plate with three hits. J.J. Range had two and Cal Morling, Ojeda and Spencer Melvin had one apiece.
    Friday, the Streak freshmen will try to end their mini losing streak when they host Metamora in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
Sophomores defeat Limestone
4/3 - (BARTONVILLE) After a tough loss at home on Monday, GHS' sophomore baseball team bounced back to defeat Limestone 8-4 on the road Tuesday.
    With the win, the Streak sophs improved to 8-4, heading into this weekend's Western Big 6 opener at United Township.
    GHS got on the scoreboard first against Limestone in the top of the third inning with a pair of runs. Peyton Isascson drove in both runs with a two-run single. Limestone came back with a run in the bottom of the frame.
    The score remained 2-1 until the fifth. In that inning, GHS erupted for six runs. Chris Anderson doubled to open the inning and scored on a double by Todd Motz. Dylan Klinck followed with a single and Isaacson delivered a three-run homer. The Streaks went on to get two more runs to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Limestone would score solo runs in their final three at bats, only to fall short.
    Logan Davis earned the pitching victory for the Streaks, allowing only one run on two hits in four innings of work. Jake Thompson, Nick Foster and Isaacson each tossed an inning in relief. The Streaks had 12 hits in the contest. Ryan Osborn and Anderson each collected three hits and Klinck and Isaacson, two apiece. Motz and Thompson had one each.
Peoria N.D. rallies past sophomores
4/2 - A promising start fizzled and GHS' sophomore baseball team went down in defeat Monday 6-3 against Peoria Notre Dame.
    With the home loss, the Streak sophs fell to 7-4 on the season.
    GHS scored two runs in the first inning and one in the second to take a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning. In the sixth, the Irish cut the deficit to 3-2 and in the seventh, they push four more runs across the plate for the victory.
    Peyton Isaacson took the pitching loss in relief Streaks. He tossed the seventh inning in relief of starter Cal Morling and reliever Bryce DeJaynes. Notre Dame out-hit GHS 8-6 in the contest. Dylan Klinck led the Streaks with two hits. Isaacson had a double and Nick Foster, Ryan Osborn and Jake Fliss had one apiece.
    Tuesday, the Streak sophomores will travel to Limestone for another non-conference battle.

Another championship for Streaks
3/31 - In a re-match of last year's championship game, the GHS varsity baseball came away with the same result, beating Alleman 6-4 for the championship of the 2012 Streaks Invitational.
    With the win, the Streaks (10-2) move into double digit victories before the start of the conference season.
    Colton Crain drew the pitching assignment for the Streaks and went six and a third innings for the win. He spotted Alleman an early 1-0 lead, surrendering an unearned run in the top of the second. In the bottom of the frame, the Streaks would take the lead for good with a four-run outburst. With two quick outs, Luke Ryan doubled and Zach Riley followed with a scoring tying single. Consecutive singles by Drew Nall and Tanner Guss-Laird each plated runs and Chad Johnson's double upped the score to 4-1.
    Alleman scored twice in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 4-3, but GHS responded with a pair of runs in their side. Johnson led off with a homerun and Drake Sykes scored on an Alleman fielding error. On more Alleman run made it 6-4 heading into the seventh. Crain got the first out in the top of the frame, but walked back-to-back batters to yield the mound to Sykes. The junior reliever got the next two hitters to earn the save.
    Alleman's Matt Schissel went the distance in the loss. He allowed 11 hits, five earned runs and struck out three.
    Crain gave up eight hits, walked three and struck out three. Johnson was three-for-three at the plate to lead the Streaks. Riley added two hits and Ryan, Carson Cheesman, Sykes, Chans Sugden, Guss-Laird and Nall had one apiece. 
    Tuesday, the Streaks will travel to Limestone for a non-conference game. They will open conference play next Saturday at United Township.

Streaks rally to reach title game
3/31 - A six-run fourth inning rally wiped out an early deficit and sent GHS' varsity baseball team to an 8-2 victory over Normal University High Saturday in the Streaks Invitational semi-final.
    With the win, the Streaks improved to 9-2 on the season and earned a spot in the tournament's championship game. They will take on Alleman, an 8-0 winner over United Township in the earlier semi-final.
    U-High grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and held that margin until the fourth. A pitching change led to a walk and hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. After loading the bases Ian Milligan walked to force in one run and Zach Riley and Drew Nall followed with RBI singles. Tanner Guss-Laird doubled and Chad Johnson walked before Chans Sugden sacrificed home another run.
    Tim Rossell held the Pioneers in check after the first and went on to pitch all seven innings. He struck out 12 and walked two. U-High got three of their eight hits in the first inning uprising.
    GHS added solo runs in both the fifth and sixth frames. Nall had three hits to lead the Streak attack. Riley added two and Carson Cheesman, Seth Morling and Guss-Laird had one apiece.

Sophs split doubleheader at Canton
3/31 - (CANTON) After getting shut out 3-0 in the first game, GHS' sophomore baseball team re-grouped for a 14-1 victory at Canton, Saturday afternoon.
    With the doubleheader split, the Streak sophomores moved to 7-3 on the season.
    In the first game, Jake Thompson took the pitching loss in a game that saw the Streaks manage just one hit in seven innings.
    In the nightcap, Nick Foster enjoyed the offensive support as he earned the victory on the mound. The Streaks out-hit Canton 12-4 with Peyton Isaacson, Foster and Thompson having two hits apiece. Thompson had a triple.
    Monday, the GHS sophomores will host Peoria Notre Dame.

Big opening win for Streaks
3/30 - GHS' varsity baseball team scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back on their way to a 14-1, five-inning, victory over North Boone in their Streaks Invitational opener Friday.
    Austin Gernant enjoyed the offensive support as he went the full five innings for the pitching victory. Gernant allowed just one run on three hits. He struck out four and walked two. North Boone's lone run can on a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
    Chad Johnson drove in three runs to lead the GHS attack. He was 2-for-2 with a double. Drew Nall, Tanner Guss-Laird, Seth Morling Drake Sykes, Carson Cheesman and Tim Rossell all chipped in one hit apiece. North Boone's pitchers hit six Streak batters.
    Saturday, the GHS varsity will meet University High in the noon semi-final.
Sophomore Streaks edge East Peoria
3/29 - (EAST PEORIA) GHS' sophomore baseball team held on Thursday for a 4-2 victory over East Peoria at the Eastside Center.
    The Streaks led from start to finish, but saw the Raiders strand the potential tying runs in the bottom of the seventh as Nick Foster picked up the save in relief. Cal Morling earned the victory, going five innings and allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out three. Jake Thompson tossed one inning and allowed the other run.
    With two out in the first inning, four consecutive singles by Foster, Ryan Osborn, Logan Davis and Dylan Klinck yield two runs. The Streaks increased their lead to 3-0 with another run in the third thanks to an RBI single by Daivs. After surrendering a solo run in the bottom of the third, GHS struck again in the fifth. Foster doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly. East Peoria cut the deficit to 4-2 in the sixth, but could get no closer.
    With the win, the GHS sophs improved to 6-2 on the season. They will travel to Canton, Saturday, for a doubleheader.
Streaks roll past East Peoria
3/28 - (EAST PEORIA) GHS' varsity baseball team bounced back from an rough loss Tuesday against Washington to thump East Peoria 11-2, Wednesday, at the Eastside Center.
    With the win, the varsity Streaks improved to 7-2 on the season, heading into the Streaks Invitational.
    Carson Cheesman enjoyed the offensive support as he picked up the pitching victory. He pitched into the sixth inning before being relieved by Austin Gernant. Tim Rossell pitched a three-up-three-down seventh.
    Chad Johnson had a big day at the plate for the Streaks. He hit two homeruns, including a grand slam in the seventh. Chans Sugden also homered for the Streaks. He led off the third with a solo shot to break a 2-2 tie and put GHS ahead for good.
    Friday, the Streaks will meet North Boone in the 5:00 p.m. opening round contest in the Streaks Invitational.
Washington clobbers Streaks
3/27 - It was a game the GHS varsity baseball team hope they can quickly forget. Tuesday night, Washington pounded out 20 hits in a 15-3 non-conference victory over the Streaks.
    The loss broke the GHS varsity's six-game winning streak and inflated the pitching staff's ERA. With the loss, the Streaks fell to 6-2 on the season.
    The game started out competitively, but didn't take long to get out of hand. Washington plated two runs in the top of the first inning and GHS scored two in their side. After scoreless second inning, things went south for Streak starting pitcher Drake Sykes. The Panthers took advantage of a couple of errors and scored four in the top of the third for a 6-2 lead. They added another run in the fourth and three in the fifth to widen their margin to 10-2.
    In the sixth, the Panthers had six hits off Streaks reliever Matt Lansing to take a 15-2 lead. Chans Sugden led off the bottom of the frame with a homerun over the centerfield fence, but it was far from being enough to keep the game going as Washington ended it on the mercy rule.
    All three GHS pitchers gave up runs. Sykes took the loss, allowing seven runs, but only three earned. Colton Crain allowed three and Lansing, five. Offensively, the Streaks didn't get much done. Beyond Sugden's blast, GHS managed only three more hits - one each by Tanner Guss-Laird, Chad Johnson and Seth Morling.
    Wednesday, the Streaks will travel to East Peoria looking for answers on both the mound and at the plate.
Streak pitchers shut out Geneseo
3/26 - (GENESEO) Three GHS pitchers held Geneseo scoreless Monday as the Streaks' varsity scored a 4-0 non-conference victory - their sixth in a row.
    With the win, the Streaks moved to 6-1 on the season. Chans Sugden started on the mound for GHS and went three innings for the victory. Austin Gernant pitched the next three innings and struck out five. Carson Cheesman tossed the seventh.
    GHS scored one run in the first inning, but left the bases loaded. In the second, they added two runs on a Nathan Perez single scoring both runs. The Streaks' final run came in the fourth. Seth Morling and Zach Riley led the seven-hit GHS attack with doubles.
    Tuesday, the Streaks will host Washington at Sundberg Field.
Geneseo tops Streak sophomores
3/26 - GHS' sophomore baseball team dropped a 6-2 decision to Geneseo, here Monday.
    The young Streaks took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, but saw the visitors take a 3-2 lead in the third. Geneseo added two more in the fourth and one more in the seventh while the Streaks were shutout the rest of the way.
    Logan Davis took the pitching loss for GHS. He allowed five runs on six hits in four innings. Bryce DeJaynes went 1 2/3 innings and Peyton Isaacson, 1 1/3. GHS had eight hits DeJaynes had three hits; Dylan Klinck and Davis, two apiece; and Jake Thompson, one.
    With the loss, the Streak sophomores fell to 5-2 on the season while Geneseo improved to 6-1. The Streak sophs will travel to East Peoria on Thursday.
Freshmen open season with win
3/26 - It seemed like a typical early-season freshmen game. Monday, the GHS freshmen baseball team topped Rock Island 17-7 in five innings for their first win of the season.
    Walks, errors and an occasional hit fueled both teams' offenses. The young Streaks took a 4-0 lead into the third inning and saw Rock Island plate three to close the gap. A three-run bottom of the third gave GHS a 7-3 advantage that Rocky promptly wiped out in the top of the fourth. A nine-run bottom of the fourth eventually put the Streaks on course for the five-inning victory. They added one more in the fifth to end the contest.
    Todd Motz, the third Streak pitcher, earned the victory. Cal Morling, Matt Kohl and Josh Fliss had two hits apiece to lead the GHS attack. Christopher Kelley, J.J. Range and Mark Ojeda had one hit each.
    The Streak freshmen (1-0) will travel to East Peoria on Tuesday.
Early Spring Invitational
Streaks win twice to capture title
3/24 - Two victories Saturday gave GHS' varsity baseball team the championship of the Early Spring Invitational. The Streaks pounded Dixon 10-0 in five innings before rallying in the bottom of the seventh to beat Metamora 2-1 for the title.
    With the wins, the Streaks varsity improved to 5-1 on the early season. They will travel to
Geneseo Monday for a non-conference game and host Washington on Tuesday before traveling to East Peoria for a rare Wednesday contest.
    The Streaks' offense was sharp against Dixon as they scored in each of their four offensive opportunities. They scored two in the first and second innings and three in both the third and fourth frames for their 10 runs.
    Tim Rossell enjoyed the offensive support as he shut out the Dukes on two hits. He struck out eight. Zach Riley, Drake Sykes and Seth Morling had two hits apiece to lead the GHS attack. Sykes had two doubles and Morling, one. Drew Nall had a hit and two RBI's and Chad Johnson, Carson Cheesman and Chans Sugden added one hit apiece. John Thomas, who took the pitching loss for Dixon, had a double.
    In the championship game, the fans saw two evenly matched teams and score reflected it. Colton Crain went the distance on the mound for the Streaks, allowing just one uneared run in the second inning. He allowed three hits, walked one, hit one and struck out two as he seemed in command throughout.
    GHS had to come from behind for the win. They scored a solo run in the sixth and plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on Tanner Guss-Laird's two-out single that scored Rossell.
    The Streaks had five hits in the contest, one apiece from Guss-Laird, Johnson, Sykes, Cheesman and Ian Milligan. Metamora was held to just three singles. Ethan Skender drove in the Redbirds' run with a sacrifice fly to right.
GHS sophomores sweep Morton
3/24 - (MORTON) GHS' sophomore baseball team got a play on Morton's new baseball field Saturday and they found it a great experience as they swept a pair of games from the hosts, 7-3 and 5-0.
    With the wins, the Streak sophomores improved to 5-1 on the season, while Morton fell to 1-2.
    In the first game, GHS took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed in the contest. They added a solo run in the second and three more in the fourth. Morton scored solo runs in the third, sixth and seventh frames. The Streaks out-hit the Potters13-4.
    Jake Thompson picked up the pitching victory, going six innings, allowing two runs. Todd Motz and Chris Anderson led the Streaks with three hits apiece. Ryan Osborn and Bryce Reid had two each and Bryce Dejaynes, Nick Foster and Peyton Isaacson added one apiece.
    In the nightcap, Foster pitched six scoreless innings to earn the victory and Cal Morling tossed a three-up-three-down seventh to preserve the shutout. Morton was limited to just three hits in the contest.
    GHS scored two runs in the first inning and three in the third. Isaacson went three-for-three at the plate with a double. Logan Davis had two hits, including a double and Motz chipped in a double and a pair of RBI's. Anderson, Reid and Dylan Klinck also had hits for the Streaks.
    Monday, the GHS sophomores will host Geneseo.
Early Spring Invitational
Streaks clobber East Aurora
3/23 - The heavy rain in the area stayed away as the GHS varsity baseball team wrapped up the first day of the Early Spring Invitational with a 17-0 five-inning victory over East Aurora.
    The Streaks (3-1) scored 11 runs in the second inning and never looked back against the Tomkats. GHS pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of five East Aurora fielding errors.
    Senior Chad Johnson went four-for-four at the plate with six RBI's to fuel the Streak attack. Two of his hits were doubles. Tanner Guss-Laird added three more hits and three RBI's. Seth Morling and Austin Gernant had two hits each and Drew Nall, Nathan Perez, Drake Sykes and Carson Cheesman added one hit apiece.
    Matt Lansing tossed three innings to pick up the pitching victory. He allowed one hit and struck out one. Chans Sugden pitched the final two innings and struck out four.
    Saturday, the Streaks will face Dixon at 11:00 a.m. The winner of that game will meet the winner of Pool B later that afternoon for the championship of the seven-team invite. 
Sophomore Streaks slip past Sherrard
3/22 - Falling behind early did not keep GHS' sophomore baseball team from improving to 3-1 on the season, Thursday, as they rallied to edge Sherrard 3-2 at home.
    Jake Thompson earned the pitching victory and Peyton Isaacson, the save, the Streaks. In the contest, the locals committed five errors, but thanks to good pitching, were able to minimize the damage and hold Sherrard scoreless for six innings.
    GHS scored a solo run in the second inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. A walk and a two-out RBI single by Chris Anderson plated the run. In the fourth, the Streaks grabbed the lead with a two-run uprising. Thompson and Anderson both drove in runs.
    Saturday, the GHS sophomores will travel to Morton for a 10 a.m. doubleheader.
Streaks solid in win over Dunlap
3/20 - (DUNLAP) The first road trip of the season was a successful on for GHS' varsity baseball team as they defeated Dunlap 7-1, Tuesday.
    Behind some solid pitching, the Streaks scored in every inning but the seventh. Austin Gernant, the first of five GHS pitchers, went three innings to pick up the victory. He allowed Dunlap's only run which scored as a result of an error. Colton Crain, Matt Lansing, Carson Cheesman and Tim Rossell all pitched an inning of relief. Rossell struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh.
    Drake Sykes hit the first homerun of the season for the Streaks in the sixth inning. He also doubled in a run in the fourth inning.
    Thursday, weather-permitting, the GHS varsity will travel to Canton. They will then return home for a weekend six-team invitational.
GHS sophomores slug past Macomb
3/20 - (MACOMB) Tuesday's GHS sophomore baseball game at Macomb was no contest as the young Streaks rolled to a 30-8 victory.
    With the win, the GHS sophs improved to 2-1 on the season.
    Cal Morling picked up the pitching victory as the Streaks pounded out 20 hits in the contest.
    The next game for the sophomores will be Thursday, weather-permitting, at home against Sherrard.
Opening Weekend
Streaks forced to settle for split
3/17 - After struggling offensively in their first game of the day, GHS' varsity baseball team rebounded to gain a split Saturday on opening weekend. The Streaks lost to Rockford Guilford 5-1, but topped Glenbard East 5-0 in the nightcap. East beat Guilford to leave all three 3A teams 1-1 for the day.
    In the first game, both teams scored solo runs in the third inning and took that 1-1 deadlock into the seventh. In the that fateful frame, GHS' proved generous as they walked three batters after two quick outs. A three-run double by Guilford's Steve Chamberlain broke things wide open and gave the Vikings the win.
    Austin Gernant took the pitching loss for the Streaks in relief. GHS managed five hits. Seth Morling had two hits to lead the Streaks and Tim Rossell, Chans Sugden and Tanner Guss also had baseraps. Rossell drove in the lone GHS run.
    In the nightcap, Rossell and Carson Cheesman combined for a three-hit shutout. Rossell struck out four batters. Glenbard East managed just one hit through the first sixth innings. The Streaks' bats produced 11 hits in the nightcap. They scored three runs in the second inning and two more in the third.
    Ian Milligan, Zach Riley and Drew Nall had two hits apiece. Guss, Chad Johnson, Morling, Sugden and Gernant had one hit each.
    Next up for the GHS varsity will be a non-conference game at Dunlap Tuesday.
Sophomores split on opening day
3/17 - GHS' sophomore baseball team split a pair of contests Saturday as they opened their season at Knox College. The young Streaks lost their first game to Normal West 5-3, but bounced back to top Moline 10-9 in eight innings.
    In the opener, West broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fourth inning. They added another run in the fifth before GHS finally got on the scoreboard. The Streaks managed three runs in the their side of the sixth, but that was all the offense they could muster. A walk, three consecutive hits and a sacrifice fly yielded the GHS runs.
    Jake Thompson took the pitching loss for the Streaks. He cruised through three innings, but struggled in the fourth. Logan Davis allowed just one run in his three innings of relief.
    Ryan Osborn, Peyton Isaacson, Nick Foster and Bryce Reid had hits for the Streaks.
    In the second game against Moline, GHS took an early lead, lost it and rallied in the final two frames for the win.
    The Streaks scored twice in the first and second innings to lead 4-1. Moline closed the gap to 4-3 with two in the third. They then raced ahead 7-4 in the sixth with a four-run uprising. GHS answered with a solo run to trail 7-5 heading into the seventh. Moline added another run in the top of the seventh, but the Streaks rallied for three in the bottom of the frame to send the contest into extra innings. Another run by Moline put the pressure on GHS, but they were up to the task, scoring two runs for the victory.
    Isaacson, one of four pitchers used by the Streaks, picked up the pitching victory in relief.
