5/24 - (PEORIA) In a closely matched Regional final, Peoria Richwoods got the break they needed to slip past the GHS varsity baseball team 4-3 in eight innings, Saturday.
With the victory, the host Knights (20-12) advance to the IHSA 3A Sectional at Galesburg this
week. For the Streaks, the crushing loss ended their winning streak and their season. GHS' junior-dominated crew finish 16-19.
The Streaks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a passed ball. Richwoods eventually tied the score with a solo run in the top of the third and added two more in the fourth to grab a 3-1 advantage. The Streaks scored solo runs in the fourth and sixth innings to erase the deficit.
There was a good chance for the Streaks to grab regain the lead in the sixth, but Richwoods limited the damage to one run.

Tanner Libby gave the Streaks six solid innings with eight strikeouts. Hunter went two innings and was tough, striking out six and walking none. Richwoods' managed two 40-foot scratch infield hits and made the one in the top of the eighth inning count as the baserunner stole second and on an attempted steal of third, scored when the to the base got away.
GHS responded with two hits in the bottom of the eighth and had both runners on with one out. However, a fly ball and ground out ended the contest.
Jake Milligan, Mark Mason and Ben Schneider had two hits apiece to lead the Streaks' eight-hit attack. Schneider and Brian Gernant both had doubles.
IHSA Regional

5/22 - (PEORIA) A six-run second inning and solid pitching from Kyle Hunter helped GHS' varsity baseball team win 8-6 over Peoria Notre Dame at Richwoods, Thursday.
With the victory, the Streaks (16-18) advance to Saturday's IHSA 3A Regional championship game against either host Richwoods or Woodruff. That game will begin at 11 a.m.
Thursday, Hunter gave GHS six strong innings on the mound, allowing just three runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out nine. In the seventh inning, the Streaks needed two relievers to get final three outs against a stubborn Irish crew. Caleb Weaver walked the first two batters and gave way to Mark Mason who walked another and allowed one hit before getting the third out.
In the second inning uprising, Tanner Libby opened the frame reaching on an error. One out later, Brian Gernant walked and Ben Schneider singled in the Streaks first run. A walk to Jake Milligan loaded the bases for Kyle McGee who promptly unloaded them with a grand slam

homerun over the leftfield fence. Hunter then followed with a "no-doubt" solo shot.
Notre Dame got back two runs in top of the third, but GHS' boys extended their lead to 7-2 with another run in the bottom of the frame. Both teams score solo runs in the sixth and the Streaks took an 8-2 advantage into the final inning.
Notre Dame's Jake Alexander took the pitching loss, going five and a third innings. He gave up all eight runs, walked eight and struck out nine.

Streaks Classic
Weaver comes through again
5/17 - It wasn't the way Coach Arnie Gonzalez had hoped his GHS varsity baseball team would swing the bats Saturday morning, but one swing of Caleb Weaver's made the difference in a 5-4 victory over Champaign Central in the Streaks Classic.
With his team trailing 4-2 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Weaver - the man who hit
homers Friday night - drove a double in the gap with the bases loaded to score three runs and give GHS a lead they would not relinquish. Kyle Hunter, who came in relief of Tanner Libby in the top of the sixth, picked up the win by holding Central scoreless the rest of the way.
Offense was hard for the Streaks to come by against Central's Kollin Marquart. The Maroon pitcher allowed just four hits to the Streaks and face only three batters in batter of his six innings of work. He struck out only one.
GHS broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third when Ben Schneider singled with two out, stole second and scored on an error on Jacob Milligan's ground ball. Libby allowed only two hits through the first four innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth. Once again, the Streaks' recent fielding woes came into play. An error to open the inning lead to a walk and an RBI single by Mark Potaky. A ground out scored another run and two more hits and a

couple of stolen bases led to Champaign's four-run uprising.
In the Streaks' sixth, singles by Milligan and Mark Mason and a walk loaded the bases. Austin Schearer was then hit by a pitch to force in a run and keep the bases loaded for Weaver to do his magic.
With the win, the Streaks move to 14-18. They will leave a number of the seniors at home Monday for Senior Awards Night and take the rest of the squad to LaSalle-Peru for a Regional tune-up contest, starting at 5 p.m.
Streaks Classic
Streaks rally past Sterling

With the Streaks Classic victory, the Streaks moved their season record to 13-18. They will take
on Champaign Central Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. on Sundberg Field.
Weaver's second two-run shot was the key to a late GHS rally that ultimately delivered the win. The Streaks took a 6-4 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but saw the visiting Warriors erase their deficit and take a 7-6 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
In the sixth, Rogue Schott walked to open the frame and Weaver smacked his homer to vault GHS into an 8-7 lead. The Streaks added another insurance run with two outs.
Jacob Milligan got the pitching victory for GHS in relief. He worked one-plus inning before yielding the mound to Brian Gernant in seventh. Gernant struck out two and got the final outs.
In addition to Weaver's big night, the Streaks got
two hits from Kyle Hunter, including a homerun, and Schott. Gernant had the other hit, which drove in a run. Sterling out-hit the Streaks 10 to 8, but kept everything in the ballpark.

Streaks win in 11 innings
5/15 - Blake Carr singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the GHS varsity baseball team to a 12-11 non-conference victory over Peoria Richwoods, here Thursday.
Carr's slap past the firstbaseman with the bases loaded and one out scored Rogue Schott to end what was a wild Senior Day effort for the Streaks. The GHS varsity pounded out 19 hits, but
committed 12 fielding errors in a game that saw them fall behind, take the lead, let Richwoods send it into extra innings and then give up a four-run 10th inning, only to tie it with four and send the contest to the 11th for the win.
Caleb Weaver, the fourth Streak pitcher on the day picked up the win tossing the final three innings. He struck out four. Errors were a huge problem for the Streaks as in total, they surrendered just one earned run on the day. Michael Jordan started the game and went three-plus innings. Caleb Diefendorf went three and a third and Austin Shearer, one and a third before giving way to Weaver.
Richwoods jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the contest, scoring a pair of runs in the first, second and fourth innings before GHS rallied to score five in the fifth. The Streaks then took the lead in the sixth with two and held a 7-6 lead going into the seventh.
Richwoods plated the tying run and score remained that way until the 10th when both teams exchanged four-spots.
In the 11th, Schott singled to start the inning for the Streaks and was sacrificed into scoring position by Weaver, who also reached on an error. Brian Gernant then sacrificed both men into scoring position and Tanner Libby received an intentional walk to load the bases for Carr's heroics.
Weaver and Libby led the GHS attack with three hits apiece. Jacob Milligan, Mark Mason, Kyle Hunter and Gernant had two each and Shearer, Carr and Schott had one apiece.
Prior to the game, which lasted over three hours, the GHS seniors were introduced. The seniors included: McGee, Mason, Jordan, Mitch Ausdenmoore, Hunter and Steve Godsill.

GHS tied the contest 7-7 with a solo run in the sixth. The score remained knotted until Pontiac pushed across two run in the top of the eighth. The Streaks loaded the bases with one out in their final at bat, but two strikeouts preserved the win for the host Indians.
GHS' Tanner Libby pitched well at times and no decision. Caleb Weaver took the loss in relief. The Streaks out-hit the Indians 14 to 11 in the contest.
On Saturday, GHS picked up a 5-1 victory in the 11 a.m. game against Roanoke-Benson. Mark Mason gave the Streaks a solid pitching performance for the win.
In the third place game, the Streaks lost to Bloomington Catholic Central 9-1. Monday, the Streaks will travel to Geneseo for a make-up game. Tuesday, they will host Metamora.
Early scoring carries Streaks
5/1 - GHS' varsity baseball team scored seven runs in the first two innings and made that scoring just enough to get past United Township 7-6, here Thursday, in a non-conference game.
With the win, the Streaks improved their season record to 10-11 heading into Saturday's Western Big 6 finale against league-leading Moline. The victory also gained a measure of respect
as U.T. had bounced the Streaks out of the conference race with a doubleheader sweep earlier in the season.
GHS starting pitcher Caleb Diefendorf earned the win, pitching into the fourth inning. He allowed six hits and five runs. He walked just one and struck out three. Relief pitchers Michael Jordan, Austin Shearer and Caleb Weaver (save) combined to allow just one run in final three innings. That run came on a solo homerun by Adam Becht.
A double to lead off the contest by Jacob Milligan helped the Streaks plate three runs in the bottom of the first inning, Mark Mason and Caleb Weaver
also had doubles in the frame. Kyle McGee's three-run homer was the big blow in the GHS four-run second inning. Milligan also had an RBI single.
U.T. scored solo runs in the second and fifth innings and put together a four-run fourth that eventually chased Diefendorf from the mound.
Both teams finished with nine hits. Milligan and Ben Schneider had two apiece for the Streaks and McGee, Brian Gernant, Weaver, Tanner Libby and Mason had one each.
Moline bats too much for Streaks
4/29 - Tuesday's game did not count in the Western Big 6 standings, but GHS' varsity baseball team will has to find some way to control Moline's bats Saturday when they square off in their conference doubleheader at Moline. The Maroons pounded out 14 hits here in a 10-2 win.
With the loss, the Streaks fell to 9-11 on the season.
Jacob Milligan took the pitching loss for the Streaks, allowing three runs in the first inning. GHS trailed 3-1 when he yielded the mound to Austin Shearer. The Maroons touched Shearer for two runs and Mark Mason for two more. Caleb Weaver pitched the seventh and gave up three more runs on four hits.
While Moline was enjoying their trips to the plate, GHS struggled to scrape up solo runs in the first and fifth innings on five total hits. Weaver drove in the first run with a double and Kyle McGee singled in the other. GHS left the bases loaded, trailing 5-2 after McGee's RBI in the fifth.
Moline's Gabe Favela retired the Streaks in order in four innings. Meanwhile, Moline's lead-off man Thomas Lindauer had a big game, going 4 for 5
and scoring two runs. Grant Jasper, Mark Thomas and Dylan Warren had two hits apiece.
Collecting hits for the Streaks were Milligan, McGee, Weaver, Shearer and Ben Schneider.
Thursday, the GHS varsity will face another WB 6 opponent in a non-conference game as they host United Township. The Panthers swept the Streaks in their league doubleheader earlier this month.
