Canton tops sophs in extra
innings |
5/15 - (CANTON) It took nine
innings, but eventually Canton prevailed 5-4 over the GHS
sophomore baseball team, Tuesday. With the loss, the young
Streaks fell to 16-13 on the season with one game remaining
Thursday at home against Moline. With both teams parading
out a number of pitchers, the teams battled tough. Canton
took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning, but saw GHS
respond with a tying run in the top of the second. Canton
again took the lead with a solo run in the fifth, but it was
short-lived as the Streaks plated three in the sixth. Two
more Canton runs in the bottom of the frame left the score
tied 4-4 and it stayed that way uintil the bottom of the
ninth. Peyton Isaacson took the pitching loss, allowing one
unearned run in two and two-thirds innings of relief. NIck
Foster started the game for the Streaks and pitched three
innings. Logan Davis and Dylan Klinck followed and took the
game into the seventh. Both teams ended up with eight hits
in the contest. Foster led the Streaks with three hits. Ryan
Osborn and Chris Anderson had two apiece; and Jake Thompson,
one. |

Third
try successful for Richwoods |
5/11 - (METAMORA) Peoria
Richwoods proved that anything is possible on any given day
as they posted an 8-5 victory over GHS' varsity baseball
team Friday in the Metamora Classic. After getting clobbered
twice, the Knights took advantage of some shaky Streak
pitching, some fielding errors and a punch-less offense to
beat an opponent they may likely see in the Regional next
week. With the loss, GHS' varsity fell to 23-8. The Streaks
were scheduled to play on Saturday in the Classic but were
rained out for the second year in a row. Chans Sugden drew
the pitching start for GHS and was greeted with four runs in
the first inning. The Knights tagged him for three more in
the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Ian Milligan came
on in relief and held Richwoods to only one run the rest of
the contest, giving the Streaks a chance to rally. The
offense, unfortunately, wasn't quite up to the task as GHS
could only manage five runs off Knight pitcher Zach Boland,
who went the distance. The Streaks plated two runs in the
fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the seventh. Next
up for the Streaks will be a non-conference game at home on
Thursday against Moline and the weekend Streaks' Classic.

Sophomores shut out East
Peoria |
5/11 - Peyton Isaacson fired a
complete game three-hit shut out, here Friday, to lead the
GHS sophomore baseball team to a 7-0 victory over East
Peoria. Isaacson struck out 10 batters in the contest. The
Streaks sophs improved to 16-12 on the season with just two
games left. They will travel to Canton on Tuesday and host
Moline in a non-conference game Thursday. |

Streaks
defeat Rock Island again |
5/10 - (ROCK ISLAND) Beating a
team three times in a row is never easy. Thursday, GHS'
varsity baseball team topped Rock Island for the third time
this season 5-2 in a non-conference battle. With the win,
the Streaks improved to 23-7 on the on the season. They will
play twice this weekend at the Metamora Classic. On Friday
they will meet up with Peoria Richwoods for the third time
and then Saturday afternoon take on Pekin for the second
time this season. Against Rock Island, GHS had to overcome
an improving Rocky squad. The hosts jumped out to a 1-0 lead
in the first inning before the Streaks tied the score in
their side of the second. After Rock Island regained the
lead with another run in the bottom of the inning, the
Streaks took the lead for good in the fourth with a pair of
runs. They would add solo runs in the sixth and seventh to
make the final margin three runs. Austin Gernant picked up
the pitching victory, going six innings. Tim Rossell pitched
the seventh. The Streaks had only five hits in the contest
and were able to manufacture some runs and take advantage of
some Rocky errors. Rossell led the attack with a double to
lead off the fourth - that was the first hit off Rock
Island's Reese Argo. Carson Cheesman had an RBI single.

Streak sophs rally past Rock
Island |
5/10 - (ROCK ISLAND) A nine-run
sixth inning proved exactly what GHS' sophomore baseball
team needed to post a 13-8 non-conference victory over Rock
Island, Thursday. With the win, the young Streaks assured
themselves of at least a .500 season as they improved to
15-12, with three games left on the schedule. Rock Island
grabbed and 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. GHS
eventually went ahead 4-3 in the fourth, but then
surrendered four runs to the Rocks in the fifth to fall
behind 7-4. The nine-run outburst put the Streaks ahead to
stay. Bryce DeJaynes picked up the pitching victory. He went
two and a third innings in relief of Jake Thompson and
allowed only two runs on two hits. GHS out-hit Rock Island
15-10 in the contest. Dylan Klinck and Peyton Isaacson had
four hits apiece to lead the attack. Klinck drove in four
runs and Isaacson, three. Chris Anderson had three hits and
Matt Kohl, Ryan Osborn, Logan Davis and Bryce Reid had one
hit each. |
|
Peoria Notre Dame tops Streaks |
5/8 - Playing with pretty much
a junior varsity line-up, GHS' varsity baseball team were
handed a 6-1 loss by Peoria Notre Dame, here Tuesday. With
the non-conference setback, the Streaks fell to 22-7 on the
season. They will likely start playing starters again
Thursday when the travel to Rock Island for a non-conference
game. Notre Dame took advantage of a some walks, an error
and a hit batsman to plate two runs in the first inning. A
ground-out brought in the first Irish run and a two-out
bloop single that was misplayed brought in two more. Notre
Dame would never trail. They added two more in the fourth as
GHS committed three errors in the frame and added one more
in the fifth. The lone Streak run came in the sixth when
Luke Ryan was walked with the bases loaded with nobody out.
Unfortunately for the Streaks, the next two batters struck
out and third popped out to the catcher to kill the
potential rally. Ryan took the pitching loss, allowing four
earned runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out five.
Matt Lansing tossed a scoreless seventh. Notre Dame's John
Cusak held GHS hitless through five innings before being
yanked in the Streaks' sixth inning uprising. He allowed
three hits, struck out three and walked two. Jake Hurst came
on in relief and retired six of the seven me he faced.
Nathan Perez, Ian Milligan and Drew Nall had one hit apiece
for the Streaks. |

Freshmen rally to nip
Limestone |
5/8 - GHS' freshmen baseball
team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to come
from behind and beat Limestone 5-4, here Tuesday. With the
win, the young Streaks improve to 7-7 on the season with a
big week ahead of them. They will host Ridgewood and
Thursday and travel to Rock Island Saturday for a
doubleheader. The game against Limestone was scoreless until
the top of the third when the visiting Rockets plated four
runs. A pair of walks issued to lead off the inning and
back-to-back singles sent Limestone on their way to a 4-0
lead. The Streaks scored solo runs in the fourth and fifth
innings to cut the deficit to 4-2 heading into the bottom of
the seventh. A pair of walked started the GHS rally. After a
sacrifice, a couple of passed balls and basehit by Jason
Maulden brought home the game-winner. Dylan Hopping earned
the pitching victory in relief of Cal Morling, who went four
innings. Both pitchers struck out four Limestone batters.
The Streaks finished with four hits. Josh Fliss had two and
Maulden and Christopher Kelley, one each. |
|
Streaks
are WB 6 champs |
5/5 - A doubleheader sweep of
Alleman Saturday gave GHS' varsity baseball team the
outright championship of the Western Big 6 conference. With
the 6-2 and 8-6 victories, the Streaks (22-6) finished
league play 8-2, one game ahead of runner-up Moline. In the
opener, the Streaks and starting pitched Tim Rossell got off
to a rough start as Alleman jump ahead 2-0 with a pair of
runs in the top of the first inning, but that would be all
the Pioneers would get as Rossell retired 16 of the final 17
batters to face him. GHS scored a solo run in the bottom of
the first and took the lead in the third with three more
runs. They added two more in the sixth on a Chans Sugden
double. Carson Cheesman went three-for-four at the plate to
lead the Streaks and that they capitalized a number of walks
issued. Seth Morling drew four walks and Chad Johnson,
three. Rossell finished conference play with a perfect 5-0
conference pitching record. With a piece of the conference
title in their pocket after winning the first game and
learning Moline had fallen to United Township, the Streaks
needed a real team effort to obtain the outright title.
Austin Gernant drew the start and surrender two first inning
runs to the Pioneers, but the Streaks answered with three in
their side of the frame. GHS added five more in second
inning. A key blow was Morling's two-run double. After that
inning, the Streaks could plate no more runs, but they were
able to let their big lead stand up. Sugden earned the save,
pitching the final three innings after Alleman had rallied
back to within two runs. Tuesday, the Streaks will host
Peoria Notre Dame in a non-conference game. |
| Streaks
sophomores split with Alleman |
5/5 - GHS' sophomore baseball
team wrapped up their conference season Saturday with a
doubleheader split with Alleman. The visiting Pioneers won
the first game 7-2, but GHS rebounded to take the nightcap
7-4. The split left the Streaks exactly 4-4 in league play.
Their games originally schedule against Quincy were dropped
when the Saturday date was cancelled. In the first game,
Alleman really put it away late, scoring four runs in the
top of the seventh inning. Going into that final frame, they

Streaks. He went five innings, allowing three runs on five
hits. He struck out four and walked three. Logan Davis went
the next one and two-thirds innings and was touched for four
unearned runs. Cal Morling came in to get the final out.

had two and Peyton Isaacson and Ryan Osborn had one apiece.
Alleman out-hit the Streaks 9-7. In the nightcap, the
Streaks scored three runs in both the third and fourth
innings to erase a 3-1 deficit and take the lead for good.
Nick Foster earned the pitching victory. He worked three
innings and allowed three runs on three hits. Klinck and
Isaacson went two innings apiece. Klinck was touched for one
run in the fifth. Isaacson struck out two. Offensively, the
Streaks were again out-hit, but they were not to be
out-scored. Foster had two hits and three RBI's. Isaacson,
Kohl, Osborn and Jason Maulden had one hit each. The GHS
sophomores (15-12) will play a non-conference game Thursday
at Rock Island. |
|
20th
victory for Streaks varsity |
5/3 - GHS' varsity baseball
team reached the 20-win plateau Thursday as they defeated
United Township 5-0 in a non-conference game. Senior Luke
Ryan pitched six innings and allowed just two hits to the
Panthers for the win. Tim Rossell tossed a scoreless
seventh. Ryan struck out four and walked only two. He worked
his way out of bases loaded jam in the fifth to preserve the
shutout. Chans Sugden proved most of GHS' offense. He
tripled in the first run of the game in the fourth and drove
in another run in the fifth. The Streaks plated a pair of
runs in both the fourth and fifth frames and added a solo
run in the sixth. GHS had just five hits in the contest with Sugden collecting three. Tanner Guss-Laird and Drake Sykes

Saturday in their final Western Big 6 doubleheader of the
season. |

escape from Thursday as they lost a non-conference game to

United Township this season. U.T. scored nine runs in the

Streaks fall to O'Fallon at
Busch |
4/29 - (ST. LOUIS) GHS' varsity
baseball team capped off a busy weekend which included a
doubleheader sweep of Rock Island and Prom with a trip to
St. Louis to watch a Cardinals' game and play O'Fallon at
Busch Stadium. The game, which turned out to be more about
making sure everyone got a chance to play on the major
league field than winning, was won by O'Fallon 9-2. With the
loss, the Streaks fall to 19-6 on the season. The contest
was scoreless through the first three innings as Austin
Gernant battled with O'Fallon's frontline pitcher. In the
fourth inning, GHS relief pitcher Matt Lansing was tagged
for five runs on five hits and from that point on, O'Fallon
would never trail. Drake Sykes, Chans Sugden and Ian
Milligan also saw on the mound for GHS. Chad Johnson gave

rightfield fence in the GHS side of the fourth. The Streaks
brought 18 varsity players and eight more underclassmen on
the trip. |

more to go. GHS' varsity baseball team swept Rock Island 3-0
and 4-1 Saturday to stayed tied for first place with Moline
in the Western Big 6 with one weekend remaining. With the
wins, the Streaks improved to 6-2 in conference play and
19-5 on the season. A sweep of Alleman next Saturday would
assure GHS of at least a piece of the conference title,
their first since 2004. Moline will finish with United
Township, the team that knocked Alleman out of a three-way
tie with a doubleheader split. In the first game against
Rock Island, GHS' Tim Rossell fired a complete game five-hit

|
Monmouth-Roseville tops freshmen |
4/25 - (MONMOUTH) Allowing
eight runs in the first two innings was not a recipe for
success for GHS' freshmen baseball team, Wednesday, as they
fell to Monmouth-Roseville 9-6. With the loss, the young
Streaks fell to 6-6 on the season. White M-R plated four
runs in both the first and second innings, GHS was limited

insufficient seventh-inning comeback. Austin Heady took the

GHS freshmen get past Alleman |
4/23 - Alleman's late rally
fell short as the GHS' freshmen baseball team picked up
their sixth win of the season 7-5 at home, Monday. The
victory, their second of the season against the Pioneers,
moved the young Streaks to 6-5 for the 2012 campaign. Jason
Maulden picked up the pitching victory for the Streaks. He
went four innings and left with a 4-1 lead. Dutch Ryan and
Cal Morling finished up the contest. GHS scored two in the
first inning, solo runs in the second, third and fifth
frames and two more in the sixth. Those two runs in the
sixth proved huge as Alleman scored twice in the top of the
seventh. Both teams finished with 11 hits in the contest.

Fliss, Matt Kohl, Colton German, Ryan and Christopher Kelley
added one each. GHS' freshmen will travel to

Streaks
tied for first with split |
4/21 - (MOLINE) GHS' varsity
baseball team began the day in a three-way tie for first
place in the Western Big 6 conference and at the end of the
day nothing had changed. The Streaks split their
doubleheader at Moline. They won the opener 4-2 and dropped
the nightcap 4-0. By virtue of the split and a split for
Alleman, the three conference leaders did not change. In the
opener, Tim Rossell moved his conference pitching record to
3-0 with a solid performance against Moline. He did not get
the complete game, but went six innings, allowing just one
run. Moline managed one more run against Colton Crain, the
big guy would not give up the lead for the save. GHS broke a
1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth inning. Chans Sugden

fly be Seth Morling. The other two runs were added with a

lead in the bottom of the frame. Austin Gernant took the
pitching loss for the Streaks. He pitched into the sixth,
trailing 2-0, before Moline added two more runs for
insurance. Moline's pitcher finished with a three-hitter. He
retired the final 13 Streaks in order. The GHS varsity will
travel to Peoria Richwoods Thursday and then, next Saturday,
host Rock Island in another Western Big 6 doubleheader.

|
Moline
sweeps Streak sophomores |
4/21 - (MOLINE) It was not a good day
for GHS' sophomore baseball team, Saturday, as they dropped
both ends of a conference doubleheader to Moline 11-1 in six
innings and 8-3. With the losses, the young Streaks fell to
1-3 in Western Big 6 play and 10-10 on the season. In the
first game, Moline dominated, holding GHS' sophs to just one
run on three hits. The Streaks were frustrated as they
struck out only twice, walked four times and were aided by
five Moline errors, but only scraped up one run. Moline
posted four-run innings in the third and sixth to put the
contest away. Nick Foster, a last-minute starter, took the
loss. Dylan Hopping and Josh Fliss also saw action on the
mound. Foster, Chris Anderson and Matt Kohl had the only
hits for the Streaks. In the nightcap, the game went the
full seven innings, but the result was the same. Moline took
a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning when GHS was finally able

Moline roll to an 8-1 advantage before they would score
again. Peyton Isaacson drove in two runs in the top of the
seventh for the Streaks final tallies. Cal Morling took the
pitching loss for GHS. He lasted one-plus inning and was

plated a run in the bottom of the frame to send the contest

|
Streaks shut out Richwoods |
4/18 - After practically giving
away one non-conference game Tuesday, the GHS varsity
baseball team was not in a "giving" mood Wednesday as they
thumped Peoria Richwoods 11-0 in five innings. Colton Crain
took control on the mound and the Streaks' offense bounced
back with a vengeance, scoring in each inning. Crain limited
Richwoods to just two hits in four innings and struck out
five. Matt Lansing allow one hit, but get through a
scoreless seventh to preserve the shutout. The Streaks
jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Chans
Sugden's sacrifice fly which plated Carson Cheesman. They
added three in the second thanks to four hits. Richwoods
gave GHS a run in the third on a pair of errors and then
came the big inning. The Streaks sent 10 men to the plate in
the fourth and scored six runs. Chad Johnson highlighted the
uprising with a two-run homer to get things started. The
Streaks out-hit Richwoods 10-3. Tanner Guss-Laird, Johnson
and Sugden had two hits apiece. Cheesman, Seth Morling, Zach
Riley and Drew Nall had one each. Saturday the Streaks, now

|
Morton hands Streaks 4th loss |
4/17 - (MORTON) It was a game
GHS varsity baseball coach Arnie Gonzalez were worried
about. His premonition proved to be right on the head as the
Streaks struggled Tuesday after winning a big conference
doubleheader on Monday. Morton (13-3) proved to be the lucky
opponent as they topped the Streaks 5-2 on their new field.
While starting pitcher Carson Cheesman pitched well, the GHS
bats did not support the left-hander. Morton scored an
unearned run in the first inning to take the lead. Two more
unearned runs in the third made it 3-0. A dropped fly ball
and a wild throw proved damaging to the Streaks as Morton
would take advantage. GHS came back with two runs in the
fifth inning to cut the deficit to 3-2 as Drew Diaz and Nate
Perez came up with RBI's. Unfortunately, that was as close
as the Streaks would get. Morton scored two more insurance
runs in the sixth. GHS' varsity will have a chance to get
back on the winning track Wednesday as they host Peoria
Richwoods in another non-conference game. |
| Dunlap shuts
out Streak sophomores |
4/17 - (DUNLAP) GHS' sophomore
baseball team took their bats with them to Dunlap Tuesday,
but didn't use them well as they fell to the host Eagles
6-0. With the loss, the Streak sophomores dropped to 9-8 on
the season. They will host Washington on Thursday. Dunlap
took a 1-0 lead in the third and made it 4-0 with a
three-run outburst in the fourth. The Eagles added solo runs
in the fifth and sixth. Two pitchers held GHS at bay on only
one hit, despite walked eight. Jake Thompson took the
pitching loss for the Streaks, going three innings and
allowing four runs on three hits. GHS committed four
fielding errors. Nick Foster and Peyton Isaacson also saw
action on the mound allowing one run apiece. The only hit
mustered by GHS was a single by Chris Anderson. |
|
Sweep
keeps Streaks in WB 6 race |
4/16 - Delayed until Monday,
the wait proved worthwhile for the GHS varsity baseball team
as they swept Quincy 2-0, 9-4 at Sundberg Field. With the
wins, the Streaks improved to 3-1 in Western Big 6 play and
14-3, overall. They will go into the third weekend of league
play tied with Moline and Alleman atop the standings. In the
opener, it was all about pitching for GHS as Tim Rossell
posted his second shutout of the conference season. The
senior allowed just two hits and struck out 13 in the
contest. The Streaks were offensively challenged in the
opener, but scraped up solo runs in the first and fourth
innings. The first run scored on an error and the second run
was plated on an RBI single from Austin Gernant. Tanner Guss-Laird,
who scored the first run, had two hits to lead the Streaks'
six-hit attack. Chad Johnson, Drake Sykes, Carson Cheesman
and Gernant had the other baseraps. Quincy's starting
pitcher Adrew Eilers took the loss. He went five innings. In
the nightcap, Gernant struggled at bit on the mound, but got
plenty of offensive support. Gernant went five innings,
allowed six hits, three earned runs and struck out six.
Colton Crain tossed one inning, striking out the side, and
Matt Lansing threw the seventh. The Streaks jumped out to a
3-0 lead in the first inning. Chans Sugden tripled in the
first two runs and scored Cheesman's ground out. Quincy came
back with two in the second to cut the deficit to 3-2, but
GHS responded with two more in the bottom of the frame.
Quincy scored another run in the third before the Streaks
pulled away. Chad Johnson clubbed a two-run homer for GHS'
final two runs. Johnson and Seth Morling had two hits apiece
to lead the Streaks in the nightcap. Sugden, Cheesman,

Pekin
gets past Streak sophomores |
4/10 - Two big innings and a
lot zeroes...that's how Tuesday's sophomore baseball game
went between Pekin and the GHS sophomores. Pekin's slightly
bigger inning proved to be decisive as the Dragons edged the
Streaks 6-4. With the non-conference loss, the GHS
sophomores fell to 9-7 on the season. Pekin scored all six
of their runs in the second inning to take a lead, they
would never relinquish. The Streaks would answer with four
in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit, but after
that neither team could score. Peyton Isaacson, who took the
pitching loss, drove in three of the Streaks' runs with a
base-clearing triple. Nick Foster then drove him home. GHS
threatened a few times, but could not get anything done in
the next four innings. Both teams had six hits, but GHS
committed five errors to Pekin's three on the windy
afternoon. Isaacson and Dylan Klinck had two hits apiece to
lead the Streaks. Ryan Osborn and Chris Anderson also
chipped in hits. Isaacson pitched six innings and struck out
nine. Only one of the six runs scored against him were
earned. Foster pitched the final inning. Next up for the GHS
sophomores will Metamora at home on Friday. They will host
Quincy in Western Big 6 play, Saturday. |
|
Alleman
outscores GHS sophomores |
4/9 - (MOLINE) Commit 11 errors
and win? Most people would say it doesn't happen, but
Tuesday, Alleman proved that it certainly can as they beat
the GHS sophomore baseball team 14-9 on a windy afternoon in
the Quad Cities. With the
non-conference loss, the Streak sophs fell to 9-6 on the
season. They will host Pekin Tuesday. Things started out in
a promising fashion for the Streaks against Alleman as they
plated three runs. However, Alleman responded with four in
their side of the frame. Another run for the Streaks tied
the score in the top of the second, but Alleman came back
with three. GHS then scored four to take an 8-7 lead before
Alleman took the lead for good with a three-spot in the
bottom of the inning. After the third, GHS would only get
one more run. Bryce DeJaynes took the pitching loss for the
Streaks. He pitched one and a third innings in relief of
starter Logan Davis. Dylan Hopping and Dylan Klinck also saw
action on the mound. Alleman out-hit the Streaks 8-6, but
also committed 11 errors to GHS' two. Leading the Streaks at
the plate was Klinck with two hits. One of them was a
triple. Nick Foster, Todd Motz, Bryce Reid, and Jason
Maulden has one hit apiece. |

Streaks
split with United Township |
4/7 - (EAST MOLINE) Great
pitching on both sides produced a doubleheader split
Saturday as GHS' varsity baseball team took on United
Township. Streaks won the opener 3-0 and lost the nightcap
2-1. With the split, the GHS varsity moved to 1-1 in
conference play and 11-3 overall. U.T. moved to the same
record in conference and 8-6 on the season. Tim Rossell
fired a two-hitter in the opener to pick up the shutout
victory. He walked only one and struck out six. The Streaks
plated their three runs in the second inning. Luke Ryan
doubled to lead off the inning. A hit batter and an error
loaded the bases. Carson Cheesman walked to force in the
first run and Austin Gernant drove in the second on a
sacrifice fly. The third run scored on another U.T. error.
In the second game, Gernant and U.T.'s Connor Gunnerman
squared off in a pitchers' duel. The game was scoreless
until the fifth when U.T. got on the scoreboard with a
sacrifice fly. GHS tied the score in the sixth. They got a
single run, but left the bases loaded. The missed
opportunity to get more runs came back to haunt the Streaks
as a fielding error helped U.T. get what would prove to the
winning run in the bottom of the sixth. This week, the
varsity Streaks have a non-conference game scheduled for
Thursday against Pekin at home and Saturday they will host
Quincy in another Western Big 6 doubleheader. |
| GHS
sophomores split doubleheader |
4/7 - (EAST MOLINE) After

in the nightcap 6-0. With the split, the sophomore Streaks
moved to 9-5 on the season. They will travel to Alleman
Monday for a non-conference contest and will host Pekin on
Tuesday. In the first game against U.T., the Streaks scored
three runs in the second inning and held that 3-0 margin
until the bottom of the fifth. In that frame, the Panthers
posted four runs and made it stand for the victory. Jake
Thompson took the pitching loss for GHS. He pitched into the
fifth inning before yielding the hill to Cal Morling, who
finished the game. Thompson allowed two earned runs on six
hits and struck out five. Both teams finished with eight
hits in the opener. Peyton Isaacson and Josh Fliss had two
apiece to lead the Streaks. Nick Foster, Logan Davis, Todd
Motz and Bryce Reid had one each. In the nightcap, Foster
and Isaacson combined for the shutout. Foster allowed just
three hits and struck out four. Isaacson struck out the side
in his one inning of relief. The Streaks scored a run on an
error in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, they
put the game away with a five-run uprising. Errors again
played a part in the GHS scoring, but Ryan Osborn managed a
two-run single in the rally. The Streaks finished with eight
hits. Osborn and Isaacson had two apiece and Davis, Motz,
Fliss and Jason Maulden had one each. |

the Streaks plated three in their side. A three-run fifth
put Metamora back on top briefly before GHS scored three in
their side and two more in the sixth. They would not look
back. Colton German earned the pitching victory for the
Streaks in relief. He was one of four pitchers to see action
for the home team. Mark Ojeda started the contest and

Pekin
walks past Streak freshmen |
4/5 - (PEKIN) After winning
their first two games of the season, GHS' freshmen baseball
team has stumbled. Thursday, they dropped their second in
row at Pekin 6-3. Ten walks issued to
Pekin haunted the young Streaks in the
contest as they out-hit the Dragons 8-5 on the day. Pekin
used three walks and a single to take a 1-0 lead in the
bottom of the first inning. Three more walks, a hit, a
sacrifice fly and a field error increased the Pekin lead to
4-0 in the second. From there on, the Dragons would not
trail. GHS got on the scoreboard in the third inning on a
two-run single by Mark Ojeda. They would eventually cut the
deficit to 4-3 in the fifth with a solo run, before Pekin
would add insurance runs in the fifth and sixth. Dutch Ryan

Streaks Invitational
Another
championship for Streaks |
3/31 - In a re-match of last
year's championship game, the GHS varsity baseball came away
with the same result, beating Alleman 6-4 for the
championship of the 2012 Streaks Invitational. With the win,
the Streaks (10-2) move into double digit victories before
the start of the conference season. Colton Crain drew the
pitching assignment for the Streaks and went six and a third
innings for the win. He spotted Alleman an early 1-0 lead,
surrendering an unearned run in the top of the second. In
the bottom of the frame, the Streaks would take the lead for
good with a four-run outburst. With two quick outs, Luke
Ryan doubled and Zach Riley followed with a scoring tying
single. Consecutive singles by Drew Nall and Tanner Guss-Laird
each plated runs and Chad Johnson's double upped the score
to 4-1. Alleman scored twice in the top of the fifth to cut
the deficit to 4-3, but GHS responded with a pair of runs in
their side. Johnson led off with a homerun and Drake Sykes
scored on an Alleman fielding error. On more Alleman run
made it 6-4 heading into the seventh. Crain got the first
out in the top of the frame, but walked back-to-back batters
to yield the mound to Sykes. The junior reliever got the
next two hitters to earn the save. Alleman's Matt Schissel

earned runs and struck out three. Crain gave up eight hits,

PEORIA) GHS' sophomore baseball team held on Thursday for a

| Washington
clobbers Streaks |
3/27 - It was a game the GHS
varsity baseball team hope they can quickly forget. Tuesday
night, Washington pounded out 20 hits in a 15-3
non-conference victory over the Streaks. The loss broke the
GHS varsity's six-game winning streak and inflated the
pitching staff's ERA. With the loss, the Streaks fell to 6-2
on the season. The game started out competitively, but
didn't take long to get out of hand. Washington plated two
runs in the top of the first inning and GHS scored two in
their side. After scoreless second inning, things went south
for Streak starting pitcher Drake Sykes. The Panthers took
advantage of a couple of errors and scored four in the top
of the third for a 6-2 lead. They added another run in the
fourth and three in the fifth to widen their margin to 10-2.
In the sixth, the Panthers had six hits off Streaks reliever
Matt Lansing to take a 15-2 lead. Chans Sugden led off the
bottom of the frame with a homerun over the centerfield
fence, but it was far from being enough to keep the game
going as Washington ended it on the mercy rule. All three
GHS pitchers gave up runs. Sykes took the loss, allowing
seven runs, but only three earned. Colton Crain allowed
three and Lansing, five. Offensively, the Streaks didn't get
much done. Beyond Sugden's blast, GHS managed only three
more hits - one each by Tanner Guss-Laird, Chad Johnson and
Seth Morling. Wednesday, the Streaks will travel to East
Peoria looking for answers on both the mound and at the
plate. |

Freshmen open season with win |
3/26 - It seemed like a typical
early-season freshmen game. Monday, the GHS freshmen
baseball team topped Rock Island 17-7 in five innings for
their first win of the season. Walks, errors and an
occasional hit fueled both teams' offenses. The young
Streaks took a 4-0 lead into the third inning and saw Rock
Island plate three to close the gap. A three-run bottom of
the third gave GHS a 7-3 advantage that Rocky promptly wiped
out in the top of the fourth. A nine-run bottom of the
fourth eventually put the Streaks on course for the
five-inning victory. They added one more in the fifth to end
the contest. Todd Motz, the third Streak pitcher, earned the
victory. Cal Morling, Matt Kohl and Josh Fliss had two hits
apiece to lead the GHS attack. Christopher Kelley, J.J.

their 10 runs. Tim Rossell enjoyed the offensive support as
he shut out the Dukes on two hits. He struck out eight. Zach

teams and score reflected it. Colton Crain went the distance
on the mound for the Streaks, allowing just one uneared run in the
second inning. He allowed three hits, walked one, hit one
and struck out two as he seemed in command throughout. GHS
had to come from behind for the win. They scored a solo run
in the sixth and plated the winning run in the bottom of the
seventh on Tanner Guss-Laird's two-out single that scored
Rossell. The Streaks had five hits in the contest, one
apiece from Guss-Laird, Johnson, Sykes, Cheesman and Ian
Milligan. Metamora was held to just three singles. Ethan

| Sophomore
Streaks slip past Sherrard |
3/22 - Falling behind early did
not keep GHS' sophomore baseball team from improving to 3-1
on the season, Thursday, as they rallied to edge Sherrard
3-2 at home. Jake Thompson earned the pitching victory and
Peyton Isaacson, the save, the Streaks. In the contest, the
locals committed five errors, but thanks to good pitching,
were able to minimize the damage and hold Sherrard scoreless
for six innings. GHS scored a solo run in the second inning
to cut the deficit to 2-1. A walk and a two-out RBI single
by Chris Anderson plated the run. In the fourth, the Streaks
grabbed the lead with a two-run uprising. Thompson and

Opening Weekend
Streaks
forced to settle for split |
3/17 - After struggling
offensively in their first game of the day, GHS' varsity
baseball team rebounded to gain a split Saturday on opening
weekend. The Streaks lost to Rockford Guilford 5-1, but
topped Glenbard East 5-0 in the nightcap. East beat Guilford
to leave all three 3A teams 1-1 for the day. In the first
game, both teams scored solo runs in the third inning and
took that 1-1 deadlock into the seventh. In the that fateful
frame, GHS' proved generous as they walked three batters
after two quick outs. A three-run double by Guilford's Steve
Chamberlain broke things wide open and gave the Vikings the
win. Austin Gernant took the pitching loss for the Streaks
in relief. GHS managed five hits. Seth Morling had two hits
to lead the Streaks and Tim Rossell, Chans Sugden and Tanner
Guss also had baseraps. Rossell drove in the lone GHS run.
In the nightcap, Rossell and Carson Cheesman combined for a
three-hit shutout. Rossell struck out four batters. Glenbard
East managed just one hit through the first sixth innings.
The Streaks' bats produced 11 hits in the nightcap. They
scored three runs in the second inning and two more in the
third. Ian Milligan, Zach Riley and Drew Nall had two hits
apiece. Guss, Chad Johnson, Morling, Sugden and Gernant had

Sophomores split on opening
day |
3/17 - GHS' sophomore baseball team split a pair of contests
Saturday as they opened their season at Knox College. The
young Streaks lost their first game to Normal West 5-3, but
bounced back to top Moline 10-9 in eight innings. In the
opener, West broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the
fourth inning. They added another run in the fifth before
GHS finally got on the scoreboard. The Streaks managed three
runs in the their side of the sixth, but that was all the
offense they could muster. A walk, three consecutive hits
and a sacrifice fly yielded the GHS runs. Jake Thompson took
the pitching loss for the Streaks. He cruised through three
innings, but struggled in the fourth. Logan Davis allowed
just one run in his three innings of relief. Ryan Osborn,
Peyton Isaacson, Nick Foster and Bryce Reid had hits for the
Streaks. In the second game against Moline, GHS took an
early lead, lost it and rallied in the final two frames for
the win. The Streaks scored twice in the first and second
innings to lead 4-1. Moline closed the gap to 4-3 with two
in the third. They then raced ahead 7-4 in the sixth with a
four-run uprising. GHS answered with a solo run to trail 7-5
heading into the seventh. Moline added another run in the
top of the seventh, but the Streaks rallied for three in the
bottom of the frame to send the contest into extra innings.
Another run by Moline put the pressure on GHS, but they were
up to the task, scoring two runs for the victory. Isaacson, one of
four pitchers used by the Streaks, picked up the pitching
victory in relief.
